So what are your expectations for Cole? Low and high :

At worse hell do 15-15 and end up on the third line, overtaken by Kostitsyn and Pacioretty for the first two lines. At best he can get 30-25. I doubt he ends up with more than 55 points in any case and lower than 35 would be very disappointing. This is going to be an interesting training camp, Kostitsyns spot on the first line is in jeopardy...

Gomez might also even lose the 2nd line to Desharnais or Eller. Eller breaking out offensively could be extremely scary for everyone`s favourite Mexican`s ice time

We have the Cole twins ; Eric and Erik.

On a completely useless and unrelated note ; I acquired Cole in my EHM dynasty and he was terrible, I ended up trading him for a draft pick. This bodes well since realistic things never happen for me in that game

Anyone hear the interview he gave on the Mitch Melnick show on the TEAM990?
Very well spoken and seemed like a level-headed type of guy.
He mentioned having a cottage in up-state New York which is only 2 hours from MTL (he is from Oswego, NY). He also played is college hockey at Clarkson University which is right across from the American border.
Didn’t know that and it secures me a bit knowing the home-sick issues he had in Edmonton.

This is a great signing for us, I would have LOVED it if the term was 3 but I'm fine with both the term and cap hit. He has been healthy for a while now so I don't see that as a problem. But what is going to benefit us most is his style of play. At worst he'll be a 20-20 guy that hits. The Canes probably don't value him as much as we need but that's because they have other PWF on the team like Ruutu. I think Cole is going to fit perfect with Cammy and Pleck, we have been missing someone on that line. I think we're going to see a lot of Cammy's underrated passing skills this year.

Was he playing with Eric Staal on the first line in Carolina?

In that case I expect him to get more or less 45 pts if he plays with Plekanec.

I heard on the radio that Staal only had 9 assists on Cole's goals (26)

I'd be happy with that, with 200 plus hits, but remember he played with Stall but Skinner wasn't on the same line. So it was pretty much him and Stall on the line, now he gets to play with Cammy (underrated passer) and Pleck.

I'd be happy with that too. There's no question about it, Cole is an improvment to this team. He could probably get the same numbers if he was playing with Eller and AK on the 3rd line + Powerplay ice time.

I don't get why people have such low expectations for Cole. First off, playing with a star doesn't automatically boost a player's numbers. It's a fallacy on these boards that, in upgrading one's linemates, your numbers automatically receive a boost. Is it possible this will happen? Yes, but it's not a guarantee. It's also not a guarantee a player's numbers will drop if he plays with someone who might not necessarily be as good as Staal. Speaking of, I have never really seen Eric Staal as the kind of guy who makes everyone around him better. He's not a playmaker who dishes off amazing passes to everyone. I always thought Staal was overrated: very good but inconsistent and not truly elite.

Furthermore, Cole is a guy who scores goals based off his speed and his determination. He drives to the net. He parks himself in front of the net to bang in rebounds. WATCH HIS GOALS ON YOUTUBE OR NHL.COM. I've done both and what I see is a guy who benefits from stretch passes for breakaways. Often times, these passes came from Pitkanen or other players, not necessarily Staal. Jokinen created a decent amount of plays for Cole, too. Cole himself is a very talented guy with really good hands. People here have forgotten just how good he used to be. You make him sound like some scrub. 20 goals and 20 assists?

My prediction: 29 goals, 31 assists, 60 points

Anyway. Just to say why it's a lot better to have him sign a 4-year deal rather than a 3-year deal:

in 3 years, we will have Gionta, Camellari, Gomez, Markov's contract all expiring at the same time. That's a huge part of our team, and it's better not to add to the emergency rush we shall suffer at the time. Better layer out a little the contracts over several years.

One thing's for sure, we've added another possible 20 goal scorer.

Plex-Gio-Cam-AK-Pac-Cole

Subban, Eller and DD could all push for that mark too.

With Subban and Markov in the back-end, we'll have quite a capable offense.

From Leafs' fans: Connolly signing is more significant and it instantly make the Leafs a Cup contender.

Don't know if this was mentioned earlier but TSN.ca are such Habs haters it's pretty disgusting. They have an all UFA team and no Cole. Just look at who they put instead: Leino, Ryder??? Seriously!?!

http://tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?id=46173

Wasn't Cole on TSN's list of top free agents before free agent frenzy started? Why no respect now?

13.21% EV 26 COLE,ERIK - 12 STAAL,ERIC - 61 STILLMAN,CORY
12.92% EV 26 COLE,ERIK - 15 RUUTU,TUOMO - 53 SKINNER,JEFF

And from what I personally witnessed, Cole played the majority of his time @ ES with Skinner/Ruutu.

Blunden with his 2-way deal is not going to play ahead of either Moen or Darche, nor is he going to play C.

IF Blunden makes the team, he would be the 13th forward barring injuries, or long-shot 12th if he beats out Ryan White.

Moen-Eller-Kostitsyn
Darche-Desharnais-White (Blunden)

Actually, I think Gauthier is still looking an NHL-experienced forward

I really hope PG got a better player than Moen to play with Eller.

Oh guy, doesn't it feel good we have to worry about our bottom 6's composition rather than try to come up with a competitive top 6?

I feel relieved. What are we gonna do?!?!

Cammalleri - Plekanec - Cole
Pacioretty - Gomez - Gionta
Darche - Desharnais - Kostitsyn
Moen - Engqvist - White

And once Eller comes back:

Cammalleri - Plekanec - Cole
Pacioretty - Gomez - Gionta
Desharnais - Eller - Kostitsyn
Moen - White - Darche

Looks good to me.
Would look better with Semin in the line-up though...
