Yeah, he would be at worst our #5 dman. Don't see him being in jeopardy of going to CT any time soon.

I expect even bigger things from him this year. Unlike MDZ, Sauer appears to be at a more mature stage of his career.
And he was kept at a time when we had an abundance of RD's. We went in with MDZ and Staal as our only LD's, and Rozsival, Girardi, Sauer, Gilroy, Eminger as RD's.

I was rooting for Vtank, but at the same time had always been on the "Don't waste Sauer, he is at worst a 3rd pairing stay-at-home" bandwagon. So it would certainly be fair to say that he even surpassed my expectations. He struggles a little bit with the faster paced teams, but that can be said about a lot of NHL defensemen.

Same was said about MDZ after his rookie year. Who knows... sophomores are troublesome often.

Part of the problem with MDZ was a lack of maturity. MDZ was 20 years old last year; Sauer will be 24 years old to start the 2011-2 season. Also, Sauer has always been very sound defensively, whereas, MDZ is still learning that part of the game. I have less concerns regarding a sophomore slump with Sauer than I do McDonagh.

I think the big difference here is that MDZ was a defensive liability his rookie season as well, he was a -20 or something awful like that.

Sauer is a stay at home. He wouldnt be dropped because of an offensive relapse (To have one, he'd have to start scoring regularly into his own net). I think worst case scenario is he has trouble with speed and ends up as the 7th guy. No way we have to waive him.

That said, Sauer is an awesome defenseman. I just wish we had had him for the 09-10 season, I think we might've made the playoffs.

Very throwback, physical but doesnt sacrifice his positioning to be so.

Great deal for both parties!

Next up Anisimov...I would expect this soon, then the other 3 more difficult arb cases.

I am very happy to hear this.

A much deserved contract and I am very happy with the deal.

He was so great last year that I look forward to continue growth and development.

Good news to start the day, now go get the others looked up.

Good signing for both lets see if he stays healthy and he will be in line for a big contract at the end of this deal. If injuries don't haunt him I see his game elevating to the next level. If Del Zotto game comes back to his rookie season then pair Sauer with him and McDonagh with Erixon.

Adds $700,000 to the summer. $550,000 was Sauer's QO.

Sauer impressed me the most out of the rookies last season (Step and McD wasn't too far behind).

It's great to have him back.
