As for SK, I don't think we should be so hard on him. I would expect any player to do the same thing in his shoes. Being arbitration eligible and leading our team in points puts him on a different level than the rest.
I agree. SK74 deserves to get PAID. Do it Poile.

So by filing for arbitration, what he's basically saying is he likes to get paid?

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $56,300,000; CASH PAYROLL: $40,612,500; BONUSES: $1,325,000
CASH SPACE (19-man roster): $15,687,500

I just wonder can Bouillon and/Ledba be traded for picks? I am curious about having Josi-Ellis-Laakso for the bottom of the pairings. Nashville has for years tried to get Laakso on the roster but his shoulders kept giving out.

I wish people would wait to hear from the arbitor before making statements about the Predators "screw-up". None of us know yet what happened.

So, anyway you slice it, after estimating good numbers for Weber and SK, we have about $4 - $6 mil to spend on a top-6.

I would say at least $4-6M. Odds are the trade would involve salary going back the other way. Riffing off my post in the offseason thread, if the Preds traded Suter + for Stamkos, they'd actually be freeing up $7.5-9.5M. I know that's farfetched, but it really shows how much cash we have to work with if Poile can get aggressive.

I dont think its all that farfetched. We are one of the few teams with the assets and available salary to take on either stamkos or parise. I think the key is going to be that we would have to be assured the player coming our way would sign long term and im sure the receiving team would want to have an extension already worked out for suter.

Wait, most fans say Suter is the better hockey player, but they want to trade him rather than Weber?

I think it's obvious that the Preds have chosen Weber as the face of the franchise, captain, leader, etc.

While Suter might be more steady and more of a total package on the ice. Weber is the guy we've chosen to build around.

Which makes Suter the trade chip if we want to acquire a guy like a Parise, Statsny, etc.

Plus, we also know that Weber's skill set and intangibles would be tougher to replace in general, plus we have a pipeline of guys that - while I wouldn't expect any of them to be as good as Suter - are much closer to Suter's skills and style.

There are many reasons for this:

1.) Weber is a physical dman. We have 2-3 Suter-like replacements already in our system (Blum, Josi, Ellis). Therefore, making Suter more easily replaced than Weber.

2.) Suter, I think, would have more value (think Lidstrom/Timonen) in a trade than a Weber would (think Seabrook/Byfuglien)

3.) Weber is a RFA at the end of his contract, while Suter is an UFA.

4.) It has been mentioned a few times that Weber signed his previous contract so that he can be a RFA after while Suter signed his previous contract in order for him to be an UFA after. For those of you who know... I'm hinting at something here.
