Good deal! Very happy to have AA back as this teams #2 center. Great defensive player with plenty of room to grow still.

Crosby/Richards - #1's who will put up big numbers
Malkin/Stepan - #2's who aren't too shabby either
Staal/Anisimov - More of a defensive specialist that can chip in some points.

Not a bad problem to have.
I'd revisit that comparison. Malkin is a superstar and a #1 on any team.

great news. I was worried some KHL team would overpay him and take him from us.

I'm not saying Stepan will ever be as good as Malkin, ever. It'll never happen. I'm fully aware Malkin is one of the best centers in the game.

The comparison was made in terms of lineup setup. 2 offensive lines and a 3rd that can shutdown the opposition as well as score. Basically all I'm saying is that the Rangers have the chance at becoming very deep down the middle in the next 2-3 years, like the Penguins. I'm not saying any of the Rangers three will be better than Crosby or Malkin, because it'll never happen.

He is a superstar, but there are teams where he would not be a #1:

Pitt(Crosby)
Anaheim(Getzlaf)
Detroit(Datsyuk)
Chicago(Toews)
Vancouver(Sedin)

But just because he wouldnt be a #1 on all teams does not mean he is not firmly in the category of #1 center.

I agree. We have nice center depth but Malkin is a #1 playing on the 2nd line. It's pretty safe to say that Stepan will be a good player (maybe very good in time) but he will never be as good as Malkin.

Thats the setup most teams in the NHL have.

I still cant figure out why you're even bringing up the Pens as a comparison

Strictly in terms of overall talent--that is, ignoring captaincies--I'd think Malkin plays above Getzlaf and Toews.

wow you must worry about a lot of other random things too, b/c there was zero indication of Anisimov considering the KHL or the KHL considering making an offer to Anisimov.

Being Russian doesn't bring the KHL into play for every player.

Crazier things have happened, maybe say his hometown team calls him up and offers him some rediculous amount of money that he can't refuse for a long time, he's gotta consider it. Not that I was worried because we all know he's wanted to play in the NHL.
