While I disagree with most of his opinions, I greatly admire the fact that he embraces freedom of speech and actually dares to take an unconventional view on things. Most people in the media just regurgitate mainstream, politically correct thoughts that make the reader dumber by the minute spent reading the article.
The truth is that we all have biases and I appreciate that he was genuine and honest enough to enunciate them. We all have ideals that we aspire to and they inevitably shape our opinions on different matters. Rejean was guilty of this, but at least he was authentic and real in doing so. All the best to him.
Excellent post, and I agree completely.
Réjean Tremblay has more sports and media experience in the last week than most of us have had in a lifetime. And, he's been doing this for 40 years.
Imagine if he joins the RDS edotioralists team and join Bertrand Raymond.
I'm afraid the two of them would soon fight a duel with axes in a telephone booth that has a door. Tremblay would cut out Raymond's tongue and Raymond would sever Tremblay's keyboarding hand.

I rather think they would unite against their common enemy.
They have been the two most bitter of all sports journalists towards the Habs since Gainey closed the door to them. They were also both the most biased and obvious about it. Raymond has also been outspoken about Quebecers on the team, stating ridiculous arguments, while ignoring the obvious.

There's a difference between bias and prejudice. Tremblay is a nasty, hateful, mean-spirited excuse for a human being with an axe to grind. Good riddance!

I just appreciated the fact that a journalist with opinions was this powerful at a time where published journalism is a dying medium.
Pretty sure the same could be said about a bunch of you guys by your boss if you got fired... Most of you are probably average at best at your job according to your superiors standards of quality. '
Would have appreciated a little more objectivity instead of childish 12 years olds "good riddance" messages..

Tough to demand objectivity from posters when Réjean Tremblay didn't have any when it came to the Habs. Fortunately for him, everytime he talked about something else...he was really really good. One of the greatest writers....outside of Habs, which he has no idea about. And even himself admitted it at one point.
But when the majority if not all the articles were to bash the Québecois matter, even myself who want more locals and keeps being taken as the most Quebec bias poster...even me, I hated Tremblay,s views in that regard.
The same guy who keeps mentioning how the Nordiques return will solution everything, just doesn't remember that the Nords had about 4 Quebecers in the last year of their existence and that the most notorious one was Claude Lapointe. Certainly not him who helped the Avs to win the Cup....And everything else, from bashing Gillett to putting Molson on a pedestal and then waking up to see that under Molson's 1st year....we will have the least Quebecers on our roster ever....

Ironic that you use the word "objectivity". Réjean was certainly lacking in that area.

Tremblay is a great storyteller. But most of the time he doesn't make the difference between the fiction and the reality.
I wrote him once to let him know that most of the best male (and female) French Quebecer athletes were not playing hockey anymore and were now in skiing, diving, speed skating, snowboarding, etc... The birth rate + the monoparental families ($$$) has cut the clientele for organised elite hockey in Quebec (+ the minor league system which is a nightmare)
He made millions writing "Lance & compte" by recycling and twitching, embellishing, stories he heard during his journalistic carreer as well as his colleagues.
I think La Presse is probably happy to see him going. Journalism was not his first trade anymore... since a long, long time.
Agreed. I didn't (usually) care for his writing or his opinions, but he was consistent and not a bad writer for a sports hack, and so I often read his column, if only to disgree with them.
Judging by this thread, I'm amazed at all the people who hated him but still read his column (people wouldn't judge a writer without reading him, right? ).
And Pat Hickey gave him a nice tip of the hat yesterday in The Gaz. (cue the "Pat Hickey is an idiot" posts).
So Merci et bonne chance, Réjean (cue the "Gros Bill is an idiot" posts).

I bet he wouldn't disagree with that. Doesn't mean there can't be Quebecers.
Journalism in Quebec is so mediocre in general. The only decent guy is Dany Dubé and maybe a few others.
As dumb as most of his stuff was, Tremblay could write, which is already quite a lot more than you can say about most media writers. I mean he can only write average TV stuff, but once or twice a month he would give ya a good paper about something random. Didn't need much more to be a "star".
