2007 NHL Draft: One of the best Habs draft in recent memory

It's pretty amazing how this draft is shaping up for us, really stock up on talent.

1st Round:

- Ryan McDonagh
- Max Pacioretty

2nd Round:

- P.K Subban

3rd Round:

- Yannick Weber

Notes:

- Ryan McDonagh traded for Scott Gomez.

- Lars Eller was picked by St.Louis right after McDonagh.

- David Desharnais was approached for a tryout at that draft.

I can't believe Weber played first in the NHL before PK. How did that happen?

Management were wisely more careful with PK.

They were not going to bring him up early and play him as a 4th line forward

Because Subban had to work on his defensive game in the OHL.

Weber also had an amazing year as a rookie year in the AHL.

Because Weber was born in '88 and Subban was born in '89.

Subban was too young to play in the AHL in 08-09

I've never seen him play, but he shares a birthday with me so he's cool (so does Morgan Ellis, for the record)

Krejci is born the same day as me (Not the same year though), and that doesn't make him cool.

This draft really built up for the future. I mean, MaxPac and PK will be amazing players for us, and Weber might be a 40 points PP QB imo. Imagine if we would have kept McDonut, who's playing decently with NY.

Because LJV was born in September 88, whereas Pk was born May 89.

Weber got access to the AHL quicker because of this.

EDIT: I know someone already said this. I just wanted my chance to write LJV.

This just prove that scouts know more about the players than the fan. At least, McDonagh has played in the NHL... I never saw Esposito wearing a Pens or Thrashers jersey, and I'm sure we won't see him wear a Jets uniform.

But someone picked Esposito 20th overall. So those scouts are just as much rubbish as the hockey fans that wanted Esposito, amirite?

I'd take him on the Dogs for a low price honestly. He's still a good player, just not what he was hyped to be and got hit hard by injuries. He might turn into an NHLer at 24-25.

I remember when someone quoted me in their signature for saying Angelo Esposito wouldn't be in the NHL by age 22.

Yeah, I'm boss.

Don't wanna bash on the guy though. Esposito really seems like a good person. Too bad he couldn't put it together so far and let's not forget he's had major injuries.

But the reactions after the draft were ........
I remember Michel Villeneuve blasting the Pacioretty pick, saying "how could they pick this guy, I can't even pronounce his name!"

I can still remember the McDonagh pick. RDS was like, 'well, we don't know the guy'...switch to TSN : 'he's our second-rated defenseman overall for this draft' (or third).

Well scouts don't try that hard in Pittsburgh, they were so used to picking in the top 2.
