1) Why would Stamkos want out of Tampa? He can be a star there, good salary, low taxes, sunlight, gets to be on a stanley cup contender as Victor Hedman will improve with time.

2) How about Gomez for Stamkos straight up?

J/k.

What would it take to get Stamkos? For recollection, this is what TB wanted a couple years back for Lecavalier:

Plekanec
Higgins
Gorges
Subban
3 1st round draft picks

We turned that down, and in hindsight that's more than what was fetched in the comparable Wayne Gretzky and Eric Lindros trades. They're not getting that much for Stamkos from us or from anybody.

We know that their coach thinks that David Desharnais is an amazing player, so maybe this would work:

David Desharnais
Scott Gomez
Yannick Weber
Two 1st round draft picks, 2012 and 2014 perhaps.

I know this for a fact, the reason Steven Stamkos wants to play for Habs, is to play with lifelong friend PK Subban.

How good is Stamkos without St-Louis feeding him the puck? Is he still a 50 goal scorer?

Plekanec
Gorges
Tinordi/Beaulieu
1st round pick.

Would be my initial offer. Subban is a no go in any trade for Stamkos.

I don't want stamkos because I just feel it would cost wayyyyyyyyy too much to acquire him via trade. I'd rather offer sheet him at 7.2 million per year so the compensation is a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd(that is the compensation if I'm not mistaken).

I'm not ready to trade a Pacioretty, Subban, Beaulieu or Price.

For me it's Price I'd trade for Stamkos.

Subban is untouchable for me. I don't care what anyone says, PK can be the best dman in the NHL down the line. I think sky's the limit for him and he thrives here. How many players can play like star players in Martin's system and thrive in Montreal's environment. He's special. Plus, as a fan of hockey, Subban is just such a pleasure to watch. I'd rather see the habs not be as good as they could be but have the pleasure of watching him play every game.

Plus, I'm a little worried about Stamkos finish to the season + playoffs. What happened there ? I'd need to know the answer to that question before giving the world for him and signing him to a crazy deal.

Stamkos can score 50 goals with almost any top 2 centre in the league. All you need to do is feed him the puck and he puts it in the back of the net. Plecks and even Gomez would be perfect fits with Stamkos.

As for playing with PK, hey great. I'm not saying to trade PK for Stamkos but if that's what it took, then I'd trade PK in a second and I love PK. Stamkos makes you a contender. Add Price, Markov, Cammy, Max Pac, Plecks to the mix and we're automatic contenders for years to come imo.

What's up with all these rumors involving the habs and the flames? PG always says he likes stability, chemistry, leadership, etc. We're being massively trolled from every directions (doughty, semin, jagr, stamkos, Richards). I was okay with the Jagr hype because it didn't involve giving up core pieces, but wth would it take to land Stamkos anyway.

Yeah yeah! What's next? Ovechkin?

Seriously, if true, you would have to give one of Subban+ or Price+.

I'd be willing to give them our next 4 1st rounders tho. But I doubt it's enough.

Price is a complete non starter for me. I'd have to get Crosby in a trade for Price. A franchise goalie MAKES a team a contender, more so than a star forward. We've seen many a team beat a better team in the playoffs while riding a hot goalie. Price imo is the only untouchable on the team. As much as I like PK, he's not a game changer the same way Price is. He is a future perennial All Star, Olympian and hopefully, Stanley Cup winner. As BG said, he is a thoroughbred, period.

I would rather win cups than watch PK play, any day and every day of the week.

Tampa would have to sign Stamkos first before trading him if they want a good return.

We're not in the mid 90ies anymore where there was only 5 good goalies.

Just look at the list of other starters in the NHL. Every year the position gets stronger and stronger. There are about 15 goalies who have had a season like the one Price had last year. And about 5-10 who have the potential to get there. In 5-10 years it will actually be difficult not to have a great starter.

Also, goalies won't win you a cup unless you have a certain minimum level of team. You can look at Boston, Montreal as the best examples of teams getting carried by goaltending. They weren't incredibly bad teams though. Especially Montreal in 93 they did have some talent.

The inverse is much truer. Bad goalies winning cups are a more common occurrence with Niemi and Osgood doing it a combined 3-4 times.

While it's true that a goalie has a bigger impact on the game than anyone else, even the Dominator in his prime couldn't make the sabres win a cup. And Price hasn't shown anything in the playoffs yet that would warrant that level of faith over the many other excellent goaltenders out there.

Excellent starters are easy to acquire. Vokoun 1.5M, completely fell in Washington's lap because supply >>> demand.

That's also why goaltenders generally don't have much value in trades.

Again, why would Stamkos be unhappy in Tampa Bay?

Tampa seems to be pretty set with NHL dmen, I bet they would want a package of forwards back. I think if this were true (seems like fantasy, but Joe Thornton was traded, so...), the Habs' offer would have to start with Plekanec and Pacioretty.
