Florida re-signs Ryan Carter

http://www.facebook.com/FloridaPanthers

The Panthers made several moves today, re-signing center Ryan Carter and acquiring center Angelo Esposito from Winnipeg (for Kenndal McArdle), right wing Sergei Shirokov from Vancouver (for Mike Duco) and defenseman Keith Seabrook from Calgary (for Jordan Henry).

Busy day. Carter getting a two-way deal? Or is this goodbye to Matthias?

Great! I liked what I saw from Carter last year and was hoping this would get done. Great signing for those who feel that team toughness needs a shot in the arm.

There will be a lot of guys fighting for spots in camp this year.

Training camp should be competitive.

Why do I feel like we're about to trade Matthias?

Tim Kennedy and now Carter on 2 way deals - that's nice depth and competition at camp.

Really like this, too. Carter did well last season and was an upgrade over what we had. Hoping we get Matthias re-signed as well. Certainly plenty of guys for spots, and RR's right, should be a very competitive camp. Finally.

Hopefully Gudbranson signing is around the corner.

I too am glad to have Carter back...he was good on the PK and I liked what he brought to the 4th line.

My only issue is that we're now at the 50 contract limit so how do we sign Gudbranson without making moves?

Was Santorelli 49?
Man so we have to clear 2 spots if we want to sign Matthias and Guds.
More trades coming today?

Good competition for Matthias for the 4th line. If he loses, goes to SA, which would be a win-win situation for Panthers/SA.

No, Matthias and Santorelli were already counted as part of the list. Its not actually a contract list per se...its really defined as a "reserve list" which means the players have been signed or qualified. Capgeek has 1 guy on our reserve list that shouldnt be since he wasnt qualified (Carl Hudson) but they show us already at the 50 man limit which Hudson's spot is taken by Carter.

Really we needed to buyout Reinprecht or we went ahead and signed a guy like McFarland a little too early

I actually like Carter more than Matthias considering it's a 4th line role, but I understand that there are still hopes for Matthias.

Still, I always liked the idea of Carter and Skille on the same line after watching both of them play last year.

Great move, especially since it's a two-way deal.

Still hoping to see a quantity for quality trade to bring in a center.

We're not. It's a two-way deal. Carter will most likely be a call-up when we have injuries.

Me too. I feel like Matthias and Booth are both possible trade bait.

Honestly kinda wondering if bringing in Esposito and Shirikov were brought in as pieces to such a trade.

Booth's NTC has kicked in, he'd have to approve any move that's made. I'm not opposed to it so long as it's a really good player coming back.

Good to hear. I was quite impressed with what he brought before the injury late last season. I think he could be a great 4th liner, but with the depth we have compared to last season, yeah he'll just be a call-up when injuries arise. I think Matthias has more potential overall.

Just to be clear, will Carter need to clear waivers to be sent down or brought up? Two-way deals only refer to the cap hit of his salary if sent down, they don't exempt players from waivers. So anyone know what his waiver situation is?

Would Shirokov count against this list he plays in the KHL next year?
