This Stamkos stuff is getting silly. The dancing one wants to justify his premature expenditure on a Stamkos Kings jersey.

Has anyone besides Eklund said the Kings are in on Stamkos?

No one outside of hockeybuzz.com.

Then again, only hockeybuzz reports every last thing they hear.

Crazy scenario, but... what if Toffoli surprises everyone and makes the club out of camp? That would solve the third line right wing problem, too.

Kopitar being the last obsticle between DL and his all N.A. team so its only logical we trade him for Stamkos!

How i hate the months after July 1st....lets just get Doughty sign and drop the puck already

Once Stamkos signs Eklund and crew will switch to "reporting" the Doughty sweepstakes.. Just a fair warning.

Toffi is a sniper who has come along way defencively but isn't NHL ready just yet. I would want to see him develop in the AHL for a season or at least prove himself there before I brought him up. If we rush him we might ruin an excellent prospect.

That said if he came into camp and was ready then who knows?

Damn you!!! Stop over-paying our 4th-friggin'-liners!!!

LoL, we could save over $1 million as long as we don't over-pay our guys!!!

For the prices you've assigned, we'd be better off trading for Clutterbuck ($1.4m) and Steckel ($1.1m)!!

Matt Barry pointed out what I said earlier, Kings lost toughness in the top 9 with Simmonds....I don't know if Clune gets a shot on the 4th line or the Kings add another UFA gritty 3rd/4th line forward. Can't put it all on Clifford especially if Westgarth isn't dressing.

I don't think they lost too much toughness with the departure of Simmonds, he didn't seem to be as assertive last season, I'm guessing due to the emergence of Clifford.

The Kings do have some prospects in the system who can be considered gritty checkers, but I do agree that adding one more physical veteran could help the Kings. Problem is that those vets available in free agency are aging. The top three candidates would likely be Chris Clark, Mike Grier and Jarkko Ruutu.

I'd love to see Jarkko in a Kings uniform-but I'm biased.

There are a number of grinders and tough players still on the market, although most of these names are redundant (due to the Kings having Westgarth), have limited abilities, or are dwindling down due to age/injuries.

Cam Janssen
Eric Godard
Brad Winchester
Jarkko Ruutu
Brian Sutherby
Steve MacIntyre
Eric Boulton
Adam Mair
Aaron Voros
Brandon Segal
Chris Clark
Ethan Moreau
Wade Belak
Mike Grier
Ryan Johnson
Troy Bodie
David Koci
Kyle Chipchura

For the most part, it is a lot of waste. The most useful players from that list are Ruutu, Grier and Clark. Brad Winchester is an intriguing name as well, he's a 6'5" winger who netted 10 goals last season and previously scored 13 goals in 2009-10. He's a willing combatant, not the greatest or most intimidating at dropping the gloves, but he will stick up for his teammates and will drop the gloves with anyone.

"toughness" isn't as important to DL as you seem to believe. First and foremost is 2 way play. (just happens that many good 2 way players play with some grit to their game, comes with the territory)

You're only saying that because that is one part of the game that Kopi's superior than Stamkos.

Grit and Character has been the trademark of of DL's type of players.

I'm absolutely sure they don't sacrifize a 30 goal scorer to test Toffoly on 2nd line.
With that said Toffoly would be on the 3rd line at best and i don't wanna have him on a line with Stoll.
Rather give him one year AHL before pair him with Stoll and destroy the developement

Oh man, that is a rough list. All those guys are either too slow, too old or just not just good. If Terry Murray plays Westgarth 80 games we shouldn't have a problem.

Jordan Nolan, Rich Clune, Dwight King, and Ray Kaunisto are options too. Ray is learning to fight it seems, but we all know what Rich can do and Nolan is a like a poor man's Ben Eager....not a heavyweight but not a middleweight, somewhere in between with a little bit of skill.

If Clune or Nolan don't get a spot, I'd hope Ruutu, Chipchura or Grier get a contract.

Should they wish to go the trade route for pending free agents in 2012, I could see the Kings having interest in the following checking line utility forwards/grinders:

Kyle Brodziak
Adam Burish
Jordin Tootoo
Tom Kostopoulos
Brandon Prust
Krys Barch
Tim Jackman
Frans Nielsen

My guess is that most of those names will be retained by their current clubs, but should they fail to reach an agreement and their respective clubs appear to be struggling, I think those types of players could help improve LA's bottom six.
