From what I recall, Savard was still the one directing the show at that draft even though he wasn't the GM.

He even said Urquhart was his pick. Kind of sad that amongst the glut of the good Q prospects in the 2nd round (Bergeron, Urquhart, Vrana and Hennessy were all picked around the same place), we didn't pick the one that could've made a world of difference for the Habs.

If Ribeiro didn't have his head up his ass over here, I guess you could say Montreal would've had one of the best centre position post-lockout, coming in with Koivu-Ribeiro-Bergeron and moving forward with that group.

Oh hindsight, why must you be so cruel.

Anyone have any idea?

This 03 draft is a freaking nightmare for the Habs.. especially with all the talent that was available. Although, it was Timmins and co. first draft, maybe they were unprepared.
I can understand some frustration from the '03 draft but hard to call a draft a freaking nightmare when you have 6 guys play in the NHL, 4 are regulars. Granted it ended up being one of the deepest drafts in post expansion era, but still to draft 4 regulars is always good.

Urquhart lacked strength and any sort of a physical game, didn't get his nose dirty. Had some good years in the ECHL

Stumbled upon it this morning...first thing I thought was how they didn't pick up any signals in interviews.

He's constantly chirping Andrew Gordon. Funny, 'cause he was in the same class as my sister. He also makes fun of Porters Lake which is a 15 minute drive from my house.

Yeah, he's actually supposed to be a riot to hang out with (Urquhart), but the scouts definitely got it wrong with him.

Guy's not hiding his weed smoking too much. Not that I mind, but it's probably one of the reasons the guy didn't amount to anything. Well, I guess playing in Germany is better than nothing.

So fun reading you. He is well gone, but you still miss him so much.

I think never ever said this but : with all the players available that year... In any draft, if 4 of the 6 selections, I'm very happy, but 2003, while it isn't really a nightmare like I said, could of turned way better, ie : instead of Kostitsyn -**> Parise and Urqhart -> Weber/Bergeron

Like I said, I hate those hindsight things because, it's easy to say afterwards. But, you know

no doubt it could have turned out better with our 1st two picks, it's too bad it didn't. At least we got some bodies out of it though, it could have been worse.

mmmm respect your opinion, but gonna bet you'll change your mind. We're lucky to have AK. I thought even last season showed that but I expect him to play even better this year IF he gets enough ice time (cough PP).

LOL seriously, could TSN have made their front page any more misleading? Kovalev in a Habs jersey (why not Sens or Pens?) with the words "Homeward Bound" above it...I mean, come on.

Kovalev off to the KHL

Looks like we're not signing him as some may have suggested. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=372739

He'll regret not accepting Gainey's contract when he had the chance. He's got no one but himself to blame for that fiasco. His stock plummeted when he signed with Ottawa. No more DVD sales...

And we won't, can you imagine he would have got that contract instead of us getting Gionta. I liked Kovy but it was time for him to go and I'm really glad Gio took that deal before Kovy did

I totally agree. But from his standpoint, I still can't wrap my head around what went through his mind when he declined to shop the offer. Did he really need more money and only a few hundred thousands at that?
