Shiro definitely showed a ton of offensive ability whenever he was in Vancouver (camp and his callup last year). Also showed the ability to become completely invisible though.

When you see Filatov traded for a 3rd, then Shirokov signs a 3 year deal in Russia, you have to have pretty low expectations for a trade return. So getting Duco sounds pretty good. If he's a fan favorite that's a bonus (in Chicago (Wolves) realistically, not Vancouver).

i love this trade!!! potential skilled top 6 forward for a marginal small 4th line pest. he's a spark plug, physical, but he's small, not a scorer and takes bad penalties. not to hard to replace. shirokov could be a great to 6 forward and we don't need him this year. in the future he could be just what the doctor ordered. great asset management!!!!

Mike Santos has said as much already, so it's not really news.

"favourite" is the Canadian spelling

I was waiting for someone to point that out. Us Canadians love to add "u"s and move "r"s in certain words, that's how we roll.
At least he didn't ask what colour the Bank Atlantic Centre is.

Sergei Shirokov tells Sport-Express he will not report to @FlaPanthers

Now I wonder was this deal a mistake? Duco didn't have to go thrue waivers to be sent down? Santos said they thought he had a 2 year deal in KHL while other reports say 3. Did they really do there research on this matter? Just wondering..

He's a pretty good player. I think our coach, AV, was just really stubborn with giving this guy a good chance when injuries arose and really ticked Shiro off. He is a hard working kid that wanted to stay in NA and make it to the NHL but I think his patience ran out with the Canucks management.

I dont see how anyone is upset , Duco wasnt going to crack our line up, Let shirokov play in russia for the reminder of his contract. We have plenty of great prospects , so we have no need for shirokov right now. Let him play out his contract and then he may be ready to seriously contend for a roster spot.

It's a crime not to have this guy playing for us at the beginning of October.

Santos said he was already committed to go to the KHL this year. I don't know why you guys are acting so surprised.

I'm not surprised about the fact, I just feel like I was a number away from winning the jackpot, yknow?

This. ^^
Here's the quote from GR's blog again:

Quote:
Shirokov recently left the Canucks to return to his KHL team in Moscow. According to Dmitry Chesnokov of Yahoo.com, Shirokov has a three-year deal. Florida now holds his NHL rights although Chesnokov says Shirokov's contract doesn't have an out clause.

“He'll probably stay there this year and play. It's going to be hard to have the team release him after they just signed him,'' said assistant GM Mike Santos, adding he believed Shirokov's deal to be for two years.
We'll watch his progress. If we think he can play for us next year, we'll try and work something out with his team. He's a talented guy. He's committed this year so we'll work toward something for next year. He's a real good player. We moved Duco for him because we think he's a good skilled player for the future.''

I'd like to be there the first time Duco walks in the canucks dressing room

Mike Duco might want to delete a few tweets

Ambush journalism at its worst. i grew up with the NY Post and Larry brooks, but even he would laugh at this.

Wait for an interview. give the guy a chance. Ahole.
