Nash -Getzlaf - Giroux
E. Staal - Toews - Hall
Lucic - B. Richards - M. Richards

Obviously lots of centers out of position, as per usual.

Good combo of raw offense and grit, as is traditional. Hate to throw Lucic on there, but a pure power forward doesn't otherwise exist. The lines are rather arbitrary, any of those guys could slot in anywhere.

Other names: Jeff Carter, Matt Duchene, Jeff Skinner, John Tavares, Patrick Sharp, Cammy... Plus some less proven names could force hands by then. Brayden Schenn, Eberle, any of the top picks this year or last, etc.

Defense.... That'll be tougher. All the top young guys are right handed shots, it seems.

Hamhuis - Weber
M Staal - Doughty
Myers - Subban

I wouldn't assume Pronger is too old by then either! Defense is a crapshoot, so many top end names. Fowler, Letang, Phaneuf, Schenn, Seabrook, Keith, Burns, Pietrangelo, Mike Green... I took the above for the mixture of imposing, offense, puck moving, and defensive awareness. Subban and Doughty are going to have to go that extra mile to be in the conversation, as they're the riskiest two back there. As Green showed last time, risk is not necessarily a good quality in a short tournament.

Goal?

Of course, the homer says Price starts.

Beyond him, the top of the goalie charts is shockingly devoid of Canadians these days. We really have not produced the bulk of the top goalies in a good long time. I imagine Luongo will be in the conversation, Fleury is too, as is Cam Ward. If Reimer keeps the spotlight on himself in Toronto, he could be forced into the conversation too. Today? I'd say Price, backed up by Luongo and Ward.

Crawford is American.
Fowler plays for the States and Crawford is from Montreal

I'll chalk this up to: It's summer. I'd replaced Corey Crawford in my head with Corey Schneider. No eathly clue why other than their first names.

...and true enough on Fowler. I edited him into a Canadian WJC team in my head for some reason.

Anyway, not my day!

what the heck

not sure how the forward positions would work out, but...

E.Stall-S.Crosby-C.Perry
C.Gioux-J.Toews-R.Nash
M.Duchene-S.Stamkos-M.St. Louis (if he still has his speed, why not)
J.Tavares-M.Richards-R.Getzlaf
T.Hall

D.Keith-D.Doughty
S.Weber-K.Letang
M.Staal-T.Myers
P.K. Subban

C.Price
C.Ward
M.A. Fleury

I'd love a Hall-Duchene-Seguin line, fastest line ever, all with terrific wrist shots and each brings a certain element (Hall's nose for the net, Duchene's two-way game, Seguin's vision and playmaking).

Defence is tough, especially since pretty much all the great ones not named Keith are right-handed.

I also see Price, Ward and Fleury with the edge in nets, with Luongo getting a decent shot due to his 2010 victory and Jonathan Bernier if he snipes the top spot in LA.

Am I the only one having trouble with the D corp...

Keith - Weber
Staal - Doughty
??? - Subban
Seabrook

Hard to figure out the other LD....I don't think they will go with another offensive dman like Pietrangelo and I surely don't think they will move someone playing the right side to the left like some suggest (Habs fans should know how hard it is to change side thanks to Spacek)
