Not only are we going to sign or trade for someone from here 'till September, but as usual, no one will have predicted it and it will be for a unsexy player nobody thought of.

Here's the latest from iBoB:
Now I know it's a little OT, but he is saying that the Habs have a trade pending in the next 2 weeks or so.
So if this pans out, trade may pan out as well.

Actually, Lars Eller played in the SEL... that's the Swedish Elite League.... Same league that gave Hedman, Larsson, and many others. He just wasn't born a Swede.

From Hockey insider

The top of this year’s free agents class have all signed contracts. Some with their old team and many under a new sky. This being said, there are still a bunch of players without contract. Players that could surely still help some teams. Here is the list of 10 best forward and defense still available, with the teams that they are linked to according to my sources:

Top 10 UFA forwards (excluding Selanne who will either retire or resign with the Ducks)

10) Cory Stillman: NSH,CAR,WPG

9) Sergei Samsonov: FLA,NYI

8) Marek Svatos: OTT,CGY,COL

7) John Madden: NJ, DET, MIN

6) Mike Modano: DAL,PHI,STL

5) JP Dumont: MTL, TB, LAK

4) Alex Kovalev: MTL

3) Chris Drury: TOR,MTL,PHI,NSH,NYI

2)Nikolai Zherdev: NSH,CGY

1)Vaclav Prospal: NYR, SJ, EDM, CGY

Best 10 UFA d-men:

10) Shane o’brien: PIT,VAN

9) Craig Rivet: NYR

8) Anton Straalman: CHI, CBJ

7) Steve Staios: BOS, EDM, WPG

6) Shane Hnidy: WPG, BOS, PHO

5)Niklas Wallin: SJ,VAN,CAR

4)Nik Boynton: CHI,CBJ

3)Brent Sopel: CBJ,CGY

2)Scott Hannan: MTL,FLA,TB

1)Bryan McCabe: CBJ,CGY,OTT,PHO.NYI

I'm willing to bet that out of the 4 guys you listed as 55 point players, only 2 hit even 50 points.
I think the keyword in his reply was the (should be). Every year it's almost funny to see the scoring predictions.

It's the same thing every year. To be honest though, I was pleased to see people learning their lesson in the Goalscoring prediction thread. Two years ago Andrei was universally looked at as a automatic 35 goal scorer. Then 30... Now people are getting it right with the 20-25 range.

Have people learnt their lesson? I've always said 20-25 goals for Andrei yet people keep saying he will breakout this year or last year or the year before, and score 35, never happen. He is what he is, 20 goal 50 point guy who disappears for 10 games at a time several times throughout the season, nothing more.

I also see we're linked to Kovalev, Dumont and Drury, god I hope Gauthier has more sense then that.

What's wrong with Drury? Obviously he's not a $7 million player anymore, but for $1 million he'd be a good 4th line centre. Wins faceoffs, good leader, clutch, RH shot. He's a good option for a year. I don't think Engqvist is ready.

He has a degenerative knee injury, however, and so far there don't seem to be any prognoses that say he'll be able to play again? Originally, it was going to keep the Rangers from buying him out, but Drury was a nice guy and let them off the hook, apparently. Something like that. It probably means he's not a good option, however. Even if he tries to come back (I don't know if he has said that he will or not), it means he's still going to be hobbled and an ongoing injury concern.

Madden or even Draper are better options at this point, IMHO. They both have wheels, and play smart. Won't be able to chip in on offense much/at all, but they are smart, can skate, and have been winners.

I really want the Habs to sign him at a decent price.

Palushaj is even further from being ready than Engqvist, but people want him.

lol... Brad Windchaser. If he signs, that should be his name.

I'm starting to feel the habs signed Drury. It fits all too well into Montréal's team. Right handed, american centre who seems to be down/end of his career.

Question remains...Who is going to win those faceoffs? Any chance people saw how important it was? Are you all confortable with the centermen we have in that regard? If not...Drury is a great option. And he's not going to ask for 7 M$....

I agree the knee might be a problem and it's probably the reason he hasnt signed a contract yet. He's just an attractive option considering he's a RH shot, which is what the team needs at centre.

I don't mind Madden, but I would stay away from Draper. He was a healthy scratch in Detroit and has regressed a bit. In fact I think when he did play he was used on the wing.
