Sami Lepisto might enjoy next season in Manhattan's bright lights.

Defenseman Sami Lepisto is currently without a club. MTV3's data, a Helsinki-negotiate the contract with the New York Rangers.
Google translated snippet.

I'd be OK with this move. A solid #6/7 with NHL experience.

- More than one club has shown interest. I do not want to mention any team names, things are still open. I do not yet know where I will play next season, Lepistö commented to MTV3.

3rd rounder in 2004.

He'd most likely be the #6 defenseman.

Staal-Girardi
McDonagh-Sauer
Erixon-Lepisto

It'd be a shrewd move by Slats, IMO. He's an underrated player. Good puck moving skills, smooth skater.

This sounds like it is still in the developing stages.

Hope this guy can play the right side, though.

He wouldn't necessarily be an "upgrade", but he has more upside, and helps fill somewhat of a need, as he'd be the team's 2nd best puck mover.

I vaguely remember Lepisto as a Cap. He was supposed to have an offensive pedigree, but it never materialized in the States.

Per THN

ASSETS: Moves the puck with aplomb. Has sound defensive instincts and a history of putting up numbers at lower levels. Can log a lot of ice time.

FLAWS: Can lose battles in front of the net and in the corners, mainly due to a lack of strength. Is somewhat inconsistent, especially in the offensive zone.

CAREER POTENTIAL: Puck-moving defenseman.

Lepisto 6, V-Tank 7...MDZ starts the season in Hartford, which is the right move.

A Finn He had $800.000 in salary last year in Columbus. Any idea what he might be looking to get on a say 2 year deal as a UFA? And does he play on the right side?

Our status as of now looks like:

Left Defense - Staal, McD, Erixon, Valentenko, MDZ
Right Defense - Girardi, Sauer, Kundratek, McIlraith

Our needs are definitely somebody that can play on the right side. Maybe they think Erixon can make the switch?

We're giving up on DZ already? Valentenko? Pashnin? Kundratek (I guess you can throw Niemi's name in there as well)?

Sather's only focus should be geared toward signing Dubi and Cally and try to forget about Lepisto (not unless their minds are set on going through the arbitration process if both parties are that far a part).
