No, not giving up. Giving him time through a transfer window maybe. Still do not see the use of another Left D at the moment.
Here is some more info if interested - Sami Lepisto

Yeah, Wolski & Christ will hardly suffice. We need one on D as well...

Gotta be honest - this was the first thought that went through my head as well.

I'd think that if the above mentioned guys play well enough in camp, then the Rangers will find a spot for them on the NHL roster- if not at the beginning of the season then maybe throughout the course of the season.

Well put.

On the other hand, I think his size was less of a concern than it was when he was drafted. He's one of those guys who is good at most things, but doesn't really stand out. He's had some good international tournaments in the last few years, though, and I think there's room for some improvement if he can be a little more aggressive.

....(checking points)....(calculating points per game)....(projecting over 82 games)...(remembering that ppg mean jack****, especially for a dman)....(coming to final conclusion)....

If he comes, lets judge him when we see him.

He's on the cheap I am sure

why do fans have to complain about a depth move. He's the 7th Dman.

capgeek says we have around 12+ mil left in cap space. I say take care of both of these "core players" first and if Sather wants to, he can jump all over Lepisto for all I care.

Lepisto isn't a bad player. Flip a coin between him and Eminger. Would fit the NYR needs of adding a cheap vet D. Capable player with the Coyotes.

Very very mehhh move imo, I'd rather have MDZ, Erixon, Valentenko, Pashnin, and Kundratek battle it out for the last 2 spots

Michal Rozsival was a relatively young defender, decent at most things, great at none, that Sather picked off the UFA pile for cheap. Sound at all familiar to Lepisto? The hope with Rozsival was that his offense would begin to flourish...which it did, if only for a few seasons. I'd think the hope is the same for Lepisto.

But yeah, Rozsival sucked and was terrible at everything always. For sure.

The team always, always brings in a veteran defenseman for the bottom pairing. There's like a zero percent chance that we hold two spots for kids.

and why are they not still battling it out for the last 2 spots? Lepisto would be a spare, 7th Dman likely

So battle it out with the kids and 2 make the others go down.

Erixon should make it by all accounts. DZ is a question mark, lets hope he shows improvement and if not Vtank will get that spot likely.

I would think Pashin and Kundratek are down for sure just because of their age

Not giving up on anybody, this is a move for depth and insurance. Any GM makes this move no matter how much depth or competition they have for roster spots.

Also, no GM works on one contract at a time... Sather could be working on Dubi an Callahan right now and told his assistant GMs to talk to Lepisto.

I know everyone wants to put the young guns in and youth but this team must have a backup/contingency plan in case things don't work out. Lepisto is a proven NHL Dman while we have alot of dmen who have bright futures but who knows what will happen in training camp. Solid move by Sather.

These reactions are priceless to a player they have never seen play. Just like Eminger. He sucks. Typical Sather move. Then its complaining about MDZ getting into the line-up over Emimger.

If he can do this on a regular basis he will be a fan favorite http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_u...?v=CqLtxwRE6T4

said it before, i'll say it again...

You'll know more about Sami Lepisto's abilities after one week in a Rangers uniform than you know about him so far. Same goes for Brad Richards, Mike Rupp, etc.
