These reactions are priceless to a player they have never seen play. Just like Eminger. He sucks. Typical Sather move. Then its complaining about MDZ getting into the line-up over Emimger.
Very assumptious there...
He's fine as a third pairing defenseman; it's a depth move. No risk, medium reward.
While that's true, the rest of the defense was comprised of Rozsival, Redden, Staal and Girardi. Veterans. If you played two rookies this year, you have 4 defenseman with a combined 110 games of experience. That just seems extremely unlikely.
and why are they not still battling it out for the last 2 spots? Lepisto would be a spare, 7th Dman likely
So battle it out with the kids and 2 make the others go down.
Erixon should make it by all accounts. DZ is a question mark, lets hope he shows improvement and if not Vtank will get that spot likely.
I would think Pashin and Kundratek are down for sure just because of their age
Lepisto has played 66 and 70 games the past two NHL seasons. I'd be surprised if they brought him in with the seventh spot in mind. I would imagine that if they sign him, it's because they want him to step up and take one of the regular spots on the bottom pairing.

Seriously, I wanted to get the Center Ice package so I can watch Lepisto play for the Phoenix Coyotes + Columbus Blue Jackets badly. F###!!!
I just bought NHL Vault and the 1st game I turned on (watching now) is Jackets @ Coyotes.
See!! Dam it!! Another opportunity gone astray. I thought maybe the Rangers had enough depth already within the system. What was I thinking??? Please, for the love of God don't tell me he's going to knock DZ out of a job? There's nothing left of my finger nails....
He was one of the top players on Finland's world championship team.
Wrong! He was on the team yes, but he was actually one of the worst performers in the whole team throughout the tournament. One could argue he was the WORST, but definitely among worst three. Every Finnish media agrees with this and I also watched every game at least once. They still kept him on the first pairing almost the whole tournament, probably because of his "NHL-status", but he really sucked; made afwul turn-overs, didn't handle the puck well on the blue line and was horrible without the puck defensively.
He was a lot better when I watched his games in Phoenix though. Maybe those games were easier or maybe NHL style just somehow fits him better.

Just SAY NO TO LEPISTO!!
I actually turned it on to watch Lepisto to refresh my memory.
We're giving up on DZ already? Valentenko? Pashnin? Kundratek (I guess you can throw Niemi's name in there as well)?
Who said we are giving up on DZ already? Why is it mutually exclusive that signing another dman means DZ is no longer in the organization's plans? The reality is it is likely that DZ is not ready for full time duty just yet. And while Valentenko/Pashnin/Kundratek might work out as a #6 d to start the season, they haven't proven anything either.

This is honestly one of the most ridiculous things I've heard here in a while. Do you truly believe that Sather should be spending 8 hours a day every single day focused solely on getting Dubi and Cally signed? Does he really not have time to make a couple unrelated phone calls, eat an ice cream sundae or smoke a cigar?
Is it possible the Rangers don't think Erixon is ready quite yet?
I HIGHLY doubt that. They have been saying they think he is ready for a top 4 spot the entire season this past year. They may be thinking what if V-Tank, Kundratek, and MDZ dont hack it well enough to start as the 6th defenseman? Sather's thought process may be to load up on talent in the AHL for any type of callup or maybe a monster trade. I dont want anything to do with Lepisto and would much rather sign Eminger. but Sather and co could see a player that can be decent defensively and be able to run the point on the 2nd pp unit.
If Lepisto is signed, and DZ doesn't make the team, he should be getting 1st PP minutes. He is much more offensively skilled than any of the other 5 dmen. That's not exactly a good thing, but, I digress. Either Lepisto or Erixon on the #1 unit with Richards.
