Interview with Vinny Prospal, article is here
http://translate.google.com/translat...hl_lge&act=url

Google sucks mightily in this translation

In short, Vinny would like to stay around New York area, mainly because of his wife and kids.
Would like to join Rangers, and seems like there was some discussion about it, but he was told by Rangers that they want to get younger and to develop the kids.
Rangers didn't rule out his comeback though, but it could be possible only under several conditions(low cap hit, after Dubi and Cally are signed?)

If no one else signs Prospal, I wouldn't be adverse to the Rangers brining him to training camp on a tryout basis and have him battle it out with Thomas and MZA for the 3rd line RW position (I think he can play the RW) or with WW for a top 6 LW position.

If we cant add a winger to play with Richards and Gabby I'd like to see Vinnie back on a 1 year deal.

Dubi/Richards/Gabby
Prospal/Anisimov/Cally
Wolski/Stepan/Zucca
Rupp/Boyle/Prust

Avery/Feds

Staal/Girardi
McDonagh/Sauer
Erixon/???

MDZ/Tank/Eminger for that last spot.

Having Prospal makes us a deeper, better team. Its as simple as that. Ignoring him would be a huge mistake if we have the room.

He isn't going to block our kid's development, because Kreider is in the NCAA this year, Grachev was dealt and Hagelin, the best LW that has a shot, is a bottom 6 type guy. Besides, I'm sure Vinny isn't the kind of guy who'd have a fit if, as long as hes getting paid and living where he wants, might be a healthy scratch if he isnt playing to standard.

This is a no-brainer, folks. We're trying to go deep this year? We need a vet defenseman and Vinny Prospal.

I wouldnt mind Prospal back. I dont want him on the 1st line though because he WILL slow down his linemates. I'd probably rather him on the 3rd line.

I dont think fedotenko is an extra under Torts. I think he is a regular. Probably over MZA. MZA will be the bubble player. I still have a hard time thinking avery will be a healthy scratch.

Jets to play in the Central Division in 12/13? http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=371566

Quote:
It appears the Winnipeg Jets may be playing in the Central Division of the Western Conference after next season.

According to the Grand Rapids Press, Minnesota Wild owner Craig Leipold said as much on Monday, telling Minneapolis radion station, KFAN that the Wild would be playing in the Central Division against the Jets, Chicago Blackhawks, Nashville Predators, Dallas Stars and possibly the Columbus Blue Jackets. He made no mention of the Detroit Red Wings, which is the team most likely to move the Eastern Conference to accomodate the Jets' move.

Where is Prospal going to fit? The lines most likely are

Wolski-Richards-Gaborik
Dubinsky-Anisimov-Callahan
Avery-Stepan-Fedotenko
Rupp-Boyle-Prust

Forget Prospal, there's no room for the "great" MZA. There's no way they would re-sign Fedotenko just to sit him. Avery and Wolski are on contract years so you assume they will step it up.

Andrew Cogliano Traded To Anaheim

I guess that ends all the Cogliano to the Rangers threads.

Wow. Wasn't even a 2012 2nd, but a 2013.

I think it's fair to say EDM fans overrated his value on the trade market...

Andrew Cogliano is arguably the most useless player in the NHL. That is all.

I agree with every sentence of the post besides Hagelin being a bottom 6 player, but I think he starts off in the AHL, unless he blows the doors totally off camp. Prospal makes this team without any doubt a team that can go into the playoffs with confidence just because of the depth and chemistry he seems to have no matter where you put him. Ignoring Prospal, especially at the cap hit he will probably come at, would be a mistake no matter how you slice it.

Hard to argue with an argument presented like this.

Prospal can fill a first line, second line, OR third line role on this team.

I'd be happy if we brought him back. The guy wants to play here, and even if he can't play every game because of his knee putting him on the 3rd line with Stepan would be great.

Not to mention you have a guy who is a good fit for our power play unit.

I'm just against wasting a possible asset who would be cheap. He has 81 points in 104 games with us the last two seasons, which is kind of hard to say no to.

I was going to mention that but I didn't want to deal with the "yeah but his leg is shot now!" arguments.

Bring him back and play him with Arty and Cally, or alternate him with Avery on Stepan's line. If we're not going to trade for somebody, that's what I'd like to see done. We know he buys into the team philosophy, Tort's system, and meshes well on the ice and off with our young guys. If his leg is shot? So what, he's an extra forward that's not a 4th line scrub. His hockey skills sure aren't shot.

I wouldn't mind Prospal back cheap but only if he's healthy--not like last year.

vinny can still put up points and contribute when he's in the lineup but how many games can you expect him to play? don't know how his knee is at the moment but if we can only realistically expect 40 games out of him, is that enough to make signing him worth it?
