Wow, read through the thread and there might be 5 songs on here where I wouldn't change the station if they came on the radio.

Here's a few to try:

Amusingly enough, none of these really touch on the type of music I typically like...

hah...funny how associations go. love that Tweedy did a cover of this Handsome Family song:

"there's only so much wine you can drink in one life, but it will never be enough to save you from the bottom of your glass."

these guys were great live. Awesome stories in their songs.

I went down to Rochester for the summer block party, which had Alison Scott, Communist Daughter, Peter Wolf Crier, and Cloud Cult. Never heard of Alison Scott or Peter Wolf Crier before. The former was pretty good, although she and Communist Daughter just sort of played while everyone milled about at picnic tables and whatnot. Everyone filed towards the stage for Peter Wolf Crier, who really was pretty awful. His thing is that he sings, plays guitar, and plays bass with his feet using essentially the bottom half of a rock organ, and while it's cool to get that much sound out of two people, his singing sounded and looked like he was in physical pain.

Cloud Cult, on the other hand, were ****ing phenomenal, as usual. Probably the second-most energetic band I've ever seen live (Arcade Fire being the first). Their shows are just so damned engaging, and it's awesome how intimate their concerts are since they're more of a local scene band. The painting schtick is actually pretty sweet, and adds more to the experience than you'd expect. Also they played Mr. Tambourine Man, which was an awesome dance cover, and they changed The Ghost Inside Our House into a bluegrass song, which was unexpected but great. If the block party organizers didn't start taking the stage apart after the encore, I think the crowd was actually ready to cheer on a second encore.

Definitely glad I went down for the outdoor set, rather than waiting for their show at Orchestra Hall. I'm sure it will be cool, but I think this was a way better venue for them.

They're great on their albums but they're just a completely different beast live. Unbelievable.

The Orchestra Hall concert at the end of the month is selling really fast but you could probably still get decent tickets. Otherwise I bet they'll play First Ave again sometime this fall/winter.

Really good stuff. Got addicted for a while there. The drum player is multi-instrumentalist so he records everything else but the drums and viola for live shows.

Depends. I listen a wide variety of music, there is trash and gold in every genre.

For those of you trying to stay mellow knowing that we still have monthes to go before the season starts, you might want to try out BUCKETHEAD.

Sorry for no link, but I'm sure you will find him on YouTube.

He tends to play rock/rock-funk (He has worked with Bootsy Collins), but he also does a bunch of instrumental stuff that while trippy, can be pretty relaxing.

His work with the band PRAXIS is also pretty dang good.

I listen to everything, the big difference between all of us is that I range from Rap-Rock-Mainstream-Country in that order. One of my close friends is very good friends with a lot of the big rappers out there. Plus its the best workout music. I am REALLY digging this though for some reason:

Same. I usually like to stir the pot with country fans and tell them it has a worst message than rap because it promotes assault, drinking and driving, underage drinking, shooting things, and wishing hurt on other people. Really is funny to hear the reactions

I only really like a few genres, I don't mind others.. but country...

I hate it so much, everything about it is just bad to me, the people, the music itself.. etc etc.

But if you listen to it backwards you get your dog back, your house back, and your wife back.

I don't listen to classic rock often, but when I do, I prefer the Cream:

Anyone have any good music news or whatever websites they like to visit? I'd like a place that gives me some news and introduces new artists, some of the underground stuff, etc. I stumbled across Spinner and that looked interesting. I need something other than hockey websites in my RSS feed and it's be nice to tell my girlfriend her hipster bands suck right away than having to have her play it in my car first

Do you mean something like Pitchfork? I can't say whether it's any good as I don't personally visit the site, but know people who do.

Yeah I added that and Spinner. I just think it'd be fun to obsess about something other than hockey and musical equipment

Man I wish I had the money for an electric drumset. Miss playing the drums terribly. Kind of wish I was back in a rock band but don't miss dealing with no-talent stoners.
