i am more of a what can you do for me now kinda fan.. brown shows flashes of greatness but also shows flashes of "why is he called up?"

between him, ibanez and francisco it is frustrating. pence would give us a solid hitter and exceptional fielder.

pence would make us WS favorites to the N-th degree. if we sign him for a short term deal? we are looking at multiple IMO

Agree with this for the most part.

I'd love to get Pence, really would. But it's possibly a dream.

That tends to happen with rookies. Not everyone sets the world on fire right out of the gate like Heyward, and even if they do, that doesn't mean they won't go through struggles. Heyward has struggled more than Brown this season.

To be honest, Brown hasn't been bad. He's been an above-average major league hitter this season, as a rookie, while coming off an injury early in the season. A lot of hitters are slow starters, and having a hand injury to start the year probably didn't help his adjustment to major league pitching.

It would certainly improve their odds, no question. However, I would be a little concerned about the future of the team if they move Brown. The Phillies have a good farm system but few major league ready prospects. If guys like Utley and Howard decline faster than expected, we could be in for some rough years.

I think you might be overvaluing Pence a bit. He isn't that good. And Brown has the tools to become a star player for a long time.

I didn't say he was a perennial all-star, I said he had the potential to be one. And he does. Baseball America, Baseball Prospectus, Bill James, Keith Law, Fangraphs and more agree. It was not long ago that he was rated as the best prospect in all of baseball.

Brown's upside projects to be better than Pence in every category except for defense.

I'd crap myself if I saw him running at me like that.

Bruce Bochy was kind enough to leave Halladay, Lee, and Jurrjens in for 2 innings and make sure the already overworked Venters and Kimbrel each logged an inning while his Giants pitchers rested their arms on the bench.

Both of these answers aren't mutually exclusive and I think are both correct. He could've used Lincecum or Vogelsong but didn't, and only used Dr. Beardface because Joel Hanrahan couldn't finish the job. If he thought they were All-Stars (which they are because he picked them right? That's not nepotism is it? He's not taking a cut of their ASG bonus is he? /end sarcasm) then they should be good enough to play.

yea, lets give up on him already. kid is gonna be a heck of a player, he just needs some work.

And Pence is a ncie player...but he can not keep up the pace he is on. His BABIP is like 70 points above his career BABIP and his K rate is actually up. Very good player, but his average will return to the 290 range.

Yea, people seem to forget that even last year he was seen as a raw prospect with enormous upside. He needs AB's and playing time and time now. I sincerely hope people don't give up on hm this quickly....

It's interesting to see Milwaukee get serious. The Central's got a lot intrigue this season. Also: that ******* better not steal saves from Axford.

With his contract? He won't see the 9th inning again this year.

Anybody willing to bail on Brown now is crazy, dude barely has 200 AB at the ML level, and is currently finding his stroke even against lefties. His defense will develop late, but it's the outfield. Learning the proper routes out there is easy, and we already know he has a fantastic arm.

That said, Hunter Pence would help this team now. I don't think they could swing a trade for him though, and wouldn't be willing to use Brown as bait at this point anyway.

I was completely confused. Krod plus cah? Is that English? He couldn't at least do the hyphen for K-Rod?
