of that group, Desharnais/Weber are the most likely to have break-out seasons (Eller as well, but his injury + Martin's approach to younger players could set him back a bit longer).

of the two, I think Weber is more likely to exceed expectations, at least around here, b/c a lot of posters seem to have very low expectations of him.

as long as Martin doesn't do something stupid like use him as a 4th line fwd all season, i think he'll quickly establish himself behind Markov/Subban as a valuable and dangerous pp option.

i'd like to see him get paired with Markov, and Gorges with Subban as our top-2 pp units for the regular season, and if so, he could rack up the points.

Its not impossible if he gets some PP time and gets to play with good players like Eller, Kostitsyn and even in the top6 sometimes. People forget how talented he is.

Engqvist.

Bigger, right handed centre. I think there is a spot for him on the fourth line and on the pk (especially on a Martin coached team).

On my list it's...
1-Weber
1a-Eller...both guys showed flshes of their abilities last year and could take a big step forward
3-Yemelin...he has more skill than people think, if he adapts quickly he could be #3 behind Markov and Subban
4-Gomez...I'm confident he will go back to the 09-10 version, maybe even better if he is ultra motivated to bounce back.
5-Spacek...he isn't as bad as people make him out to be, I could see him bouncing back and giving us some saolid hockey in a contract year

I think Gomez will exceed even my expectations and be the first player ever to fall asleep on the bench during a game.

Now all lame jokes out my system, I voted Diaz.

I went with DD. I would've gone for Eller but his injury will likely mean he will take a while to be as good as he can, I expect a really good second half of the year for him though.

But I think that DD did adapt to the NHL game last year. He should be given a top 9 role, and with the offensive potential we have on each of the top 3 line that should give him the linemates he needs to shine. I expect a 3rd line of Eller-DD-AK to be a solid contribution after a while.

Only risk he has is Martin deciding that Darche/Moen are top 9 and that DD plays as 4th line center, where he'll have practically no 5v5 quality time.

Lars Eller. I was really impressed with his play late in the season and playoffs, I think he will have a really good season

Going with Engqvist, solid on the PK and a right hander who is good on faceoffs could have a good chance at starting the season on the fourth line. I remember Martin was really impressed with him during the AHL playoffs so he might have a new man crush now that Pyatt is gone.

Martin's approach was to give him more ice-time as the season went on, including PO where he averaged 13 min per game (11 in reg season)...

DD

They will realize by trade deadline that he can easily replace Gomez...

Dont exactly know how you define 5vs5 quality time, but with the top-6 we have this year, plus Eller as an other promising young player behind them, he is not going to play that much more than he did last year. 12:00 seems a realistic goal.
And for the PP, dont forget that each opportunity you give to him is taking off an other one for someone (Kostitsyn, Eller, and even Darche, who showed that he was deserving it) else.

Worrying stat, when Desharnais is on the ice, we get scored on quite often. (2.89/60, the worst number of our regulars from last year) Even if he was playing against 3rd and 4th liners.

I am going with Spacek. Finally playing in a role that suits him.
And he's young. 37 is young. Yes it is.

(Seriously i vote for Eller, just as unlucky as Gomez last year)

Desharnais
Eller
Weber
Emelin

Those guys will all need to step it up, and i think they can. I think Emelin will be the biggest surprise, just because we have not seen him beofre and people cannot be sure what to expect. I think he will do well.

I look forward to seeing more pregression from Eller and DD.

Weber should step into a nice role this season.

HM for Carle, i think it is time for him to show up or ship out. I still have faith in the guy, but he needs to get a chance and take adavantage of it.

Voted Emelin because Gomez wasn't an option, I think he will be the one to surprise everyone next season.

I think he might have a moment à la Plekanec ("I'm playing like a little girl") and want to prove himself. With the speech he gave at the end of the year, I personally wouldn't be that surprised.

Emelin because no one knows what he is capable of at an NHL level and I think he's going to be a beast on a smaller rink.

Weber.

The guy has excelled everywhere he has play, and he was getting more and more comfortable at the end of the season. And he was good against Boston.

I think Martin brought him in with ease, and that's a good thing. He'll be a good one. I wouldn't be surprise if he reaches 25-30 points this year.

1) Weber - cause even though I know he'll be good he'll still exceed expectations.
2) Emelin - Nobody knows him and he'll likely be a very good d-man for us.
3) Eller - more of a no-brainer hence why he's 3rd. I think he'll have a slow start coming back but will tear it up leading to and during the post season!

Eller, DD, and Weber all have had significant time in the NHL by now, and Yemelin shouldn't be much of a surprise so I voted Palushaj.

I did the same, I think Palushaj is going to surprise a few people this year.

i was going between eller, emelin and diaz but for eller and emelin people seem to have big expectations (as i do) but we all seem to think diaz will only be an ahler this season somehow a lot of "experts" say he could be an nhler right away so..... Diaz it is.
