WECK lets go Nick Mendola and Brad Riter

Victims of a change in format.

Quote:
A change in format has cost two AM radio hosts their jobs as WECK (1230) dropped its talk-show format and went back to playing satellite-fed music.
WECK afternoon hosts Nick Mendola and Brad Riter were let go late Tuesday along with a part-time producer and one sales representative.

And WECK goes back to being irrelevant.

Good luck to Nick, Brad, and the rest of the crew who lost out because of this.

Such a shame that, Simon aside (sometimes), there's no good hometown sports radio. Good luck Nick and Brad.

Best of luck to Nick and Brad. I know Nick is at least occupied with his little guy and FC Buffalo in the mean time. Hope they get something figured out in time for UB Football season

Exactly what I was going to say. Nick's a good dude, and I've always liked Brad on air.

Best of luck to them.

Nick should have never left WGR. I think he was the guy behind a lot of the songs (i.e. The Bills raps) they did. Then again I don't know if he was fired or quit WGR.

He left.

He wanted more hours and some more money, and WGR was unwilling to pay him that. WECK offered him a better deal, and he took it.

I don't need another sports radio station, I need a legit Buffalo Sports TV Channel.

The fact I watch more Rangers and NY Jets sports shows in Buffalo is a joke. TWCS does not cut it.

When Riter was fired from WGR I recall a lot of people being happy because he wasn't very good. Has he since turned it around as a broadcaster for WECK?

I wasn't a huge fan of Riter, even on WECK, but he wasn't as bad there as he was at WGR.

Mendola is the bigger loss in my eyes.

He destroyed Rick Jeanneret on the air when Rick announced he was scaling back. He said "anybody" would be an improvement over Rick, that the road broadcast "just got better" and that they should let Rick do the games in a booth without actually broadcasting the call.

So you tell me if he turned things around.

I like Nick a lot, but I guess I'm so Sabre-centric I don't want to hear about beer, soccer or Buffalo politics with my puck.
