Patty's going to have chance at a big year this season helping to replace the offense lost from Smith & Benoit.

This has to be out of Wiercioch or Da Costa, people should read this imo, its an excellent post about Da Costa.

Bobby Butler recorded a 1.35 PPG in his senior year. Da Costa recorded 1.32in his freshman year, 3 years younger than Butler then repeated the feat and got 1.36 in his sophomore.

By the way, Da Costa's numbers were better than Jordon Schroeder who got a 1.29 PPG in his freshman year. Da Costa also beat out Colin Wilson who got 1.28 in his sophomore year.

Better than JVR, Stalberg, Caporusso, TJ Oshie, better than TOEWS 1.35 in his sophomore year.

In fact Jonathan Toews got 85 points in 79 games both freshman and sophomore. In those 2 years, Da Costa records 90 in 67. HMMMMMMM...

Since he didn't get drafted everyone doesn't care about him and LOVE Puempel I mean...FIRST ROUND! AMIRITE!?

By the way, when someone is signed out of college why are they not touted so highly compared to regular prospects? That's because they are usually in their senior year which is around 23-24.

Da Costa turned 21.

Toss up for me between Wiercioch and Da Costa. I went with the latter.

Da Costa is seriously underrated here, sure he has no Pro experience but the ice time he saw with Ottawa you could see the talent and skill, as well as the vision that was only apparent around Spezza and Karlsson.

If he is having a strong summer I could see being the #2 center at the start of the season.

I personally think that Da Costa is one of our best prospects. He hasn't had the same development opportunities coming from France and then he still excelled and has excelled at the world stage on multiple occasions (this year's WC was bad for him, but otherwise.) He's under-developed physically but the raw talent and hockey sense is clearly there.

Him over Wierchioch easily IMO.

It's gonna be Wiercioch then Da Costa, in that order. Gonna get interesting after that, though.

This has been talked about before, but Da Costa was much older than most elite level freshmen when he played in the NCAA, so it isn't a surprise that his freshman numbers were better than his peers - he was older. It's like after a kid is drafted, he finally makes the OHL and people start talking about what an amazing OHL rookie he is. He should be.

Not slagging Da Costa, because he is a great prospect, but this "freshman" number comparison thing has been done a few times and is way off the mark because of relative age.

I saw Weircioch and da Costa as pretty even... I gave the edge to Weircioch assuming he just had a down year last year, and the Weircioch I remember from previous years was dominant. I'm basically giving him the benefit of the doubt that he simply needed one adjustment year from the college game to pro hockey.

That being said, if Weircioch has another rough year, he will no longer get that same leniency.

Wow, looking at this, easily the best prospect pool we've ever had.

In fact, this has to be top 5 in the league.

He had 12 points in his last 19 regular season games... at a point in the season when Ottawa had called up Smith and Benoit for some games here and there. With them gone, he'll move up to the 1st PP unit.

I think the majority of objective observers see us as top 5 now. Puck Prospectus just ranked us 5th. We might lack the true elite prospect at the top end, but our depth in the top 10 is as good as it gets.

This is pretty crazy. I really like both Weircioch and DaCosta - and we're picking between them for our 10th (!!!) best prospect. Times have certainly changed in the Ottawa prospect system.

You have 2 kids that really excelled in college - tough call on which one is the better prospect.
