Tye McGinn signs ELC

RT @NHLFlyers: Flyers announce that they have signed Tye McGinn to an entry-level contact. More on philadelphiaflyers.com. (link)

Left wing Tye McGinn, a fourth-round draft pick from the 2010 draft, signed a three-year entry level contract with the Flyers on Thursday.

Popular source for NHL salaries CapGeek.com said it was worth $2.325 million.

The 6-foot-3, 207-pound McGinn, 20, was selected by the Flyers at the 119th-overall pick. He has spent the past three seasons with the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where in 2010-11 he scored 31 goals and added 33 assists for 64 points in 42 games.

We're really buying into this size on the wings thing.

Still 49, if we resign Kalinski.

Happy for the kid. Watched him play the last two seasons with the Olympiques. He was my fav player on both rosters. Good size, IQ and shot. Not too fast though and a little injury prone, but he might become an effective player in the NHL in about 2-3 years I'd say.

My uncle by marriage laughed and said "I have to get his jersey"

My uncle's last name is McGinn.

Kalinski counts as well I believe. Though I think he has to either sign or decline that contract soon. Isn't there a last date when qualifying offers have to be signed/declined?

Today,

but with regard to the number of contracts it doesn't changes anything, he is either signed or he is a restricted free agent, both count towards the contract limit.

Right, thanks. There's been quite a few new contracts given out today so far (Alzner, Frolik, Larsson and a bunch of AHL guys).

I saw this guy play in the Q finals and he was pretty awesome. Probably the 2nd best foward on the piques and has a ton of hustle and heart. His skating might become a problem at higher levels but that can be worked on.
