Regardless of the number, it's good to have him on board and I think he'll be doing great things next year.

Not saying it was never wore before or that teams that didn't retire jerseys don't have players that wears high numbers but once the trend was there, they were all into it. But I understand his reasoning. And I understand he had enough numbers...but he could have had some more. Understand your point though. Just don't agree to retire so many numbers.

I know it's just a number. For once, there's a light discussion...we'll do it...
I think the organization got a bit more lax in recent years, re: which numbers they retire because they got caught up in the whole 100 years thing. There are a couple numbers that are borderline for me even if I really like those players, and another particularly great player that I don't think should have his number hanging in the rafters for my own reasons all together. That being said, we won't be seeing any retirement ceremonies in the foreseeable future nor will we ever see teams good enough to have jerseys retired at the rate that our past dynasties have. So even though our standards have lowered a bit over the past ten years I don't really dwell on it.

It was a travesty that it took them so long to honour a lot of the great guys from the 70s teams, and I think the biggest black eye on this organization is how long they waited to retire Boom Boom's jersey and then what ended up happening. But in rectifying those things they may have gone a bit far the other way.

All numbers are awesome if you play around with them a bit.

But there's something almost cosmic about 3 cubed to me. Kinda like 2 square.

I think we were the first team ever to have players wearing numbers in the 90s in on a goal. I think it was a scored by Sergei Berezin #94 assisted by Dough Gilmour #93 and Joe Juneau #90. I guess this happens when most of the lower numbers are retired!
lol That ranks up there with Chris Osgoof as the best player name typos!

Why choose a number so early ? He just had to wait until Gorges signed and asked him then?
I like that we have differents numbers than other teams though. It's more interesting than having always the same numbers on the team but with different names. 72 is still weird mind you but in an interesting way.

I wouldve seen him in a 25 jersey (tho I have the feeling that White will change his 53 to 25, number that he wore in Junior and in the AHL).

Not bad of a choice mr Cole. A new number, a new era, a new beginning.

I never liked the fact that Gomez took #11. I still have a t shirt with 91 on it.

Even if that wouldn't be enough to make us win at least it would make it fun to go to games againLove the habs but our north south players are so boring.

He should definitely come back to 91.. Not only was that a lack of respect for Saku but 11 has been horrible for him and 91 looks better on him

On topic, well, I would of liked a better looking number, but as long as he scores
At that time, Joe Juneau was not considered a forward anymore

Should Have Taken #77

I would have taken #77 because:

1) It's a cool number!
2) To honor the great club team in the history in hockey 76-77 MTL Canadiens who had 60 W 8 L 12 Ties = 132 points, had 1 loss at home all year and went 16-1 to win the cup!! Total Domination!
3) Turgeon was the last one to wear it and he was a pretty good player!

Hope Cole will score 72 points this season (with Cammalleri, Subban, Markov and Plekanec to help him out on the PP, it should be easier)

The best number is actually 73.

73 is the 21st prime number it's mirror 37 is the 12th prime number and it's mirror 21 is the product of multiplying (hang on to your hats) 7 and 3. In binary 73 is a palindrome 1001001 which backwards 1001001 exactly the same. - Sheldon Cooper FTW
