If Barch is traded, I'd be surprised if Dallas wasn't forced to take a contract back. They'd be very fortunate to come away with only a pick (even a conditional 7th with impossible conditions), but I imagine someone would make them eat a contract.

Speaking of contracts. Cap Geek shows that Dallas has 49 players under contract (the limit is 50).

They correctly designate Nemeth and Klingberg as players who technically don't count because they are 19, but the have Campbell's birth year as '91 not '92 so he should be included as well. Plus, we now know that Sergei Korostin's contract has been voided, but he is still listed.

Therefore, Dallas is actually at 45 contracts currently.

The only way we're getting Barch off the roster is buying him out, which I don't think we can do since we had no arbitration players to give us a second buyout period. No one is going to trade or pick up a fighter who can't fight for 850k 1 way.

I didn't think to double check that Godard was listed. He was not.

Dallas has 46 contracts currently not 45.

Pretty much this.

As a Pens fan I'm sad to see him go as he's been my favourite enforcer ever since the lockout. When he became a Penguin in 2008 I was stoked. Still now I am happy that you guys are getting him. He's a great fighter, great teammate, and all in all really seems like a great guy in general. Plus I'm sure he'll be doing alot of extra charity work for/with your team to help the Dallas area.

i find the idea that anyone would trade for barch as anything other than a throw in to be hilarious. If Joe could pull that off I believe he could do anything.

Something else about Godard is he knows when to fight and when not to. He's not going potentially swing the momentum for the opposing team in some staged enforcer fight when you're up 3-0.

A few years ago when the Pens were beating the Rangers pretty comfortably, Colton Orr was taking runs at people and just generally being a pain in the ass. Orr and Godard had already fought, so towards the end of the second Godard skated up and challenged Scott Gomez. Gomez got to the bench as fast as he could and Orr was well behaved for the rest of the game.

I agree this time with Heika's post regarding the incident in Boston last season. It was so devastating to see how our guys got beaten up pretty badly, causing Burish's injury, the beginning of the end. Now we have at least someone who can fight properly. I'd even dress both him and Barch for that one match so that quality players like Burish, Morrow (Souray?) don't have to enter those fights and probably injure themselves.

btw, thanks for the warm welcome Ampersand. After being a long time lurker I finally decided to contribute more on these boards.
