2 years would have probably been 3M so I think this is very fair and Rangers get more options with the extra year.

Our 7.5 mil "elite" player last year was outperformed by Cally, Dubi, Anisimov, Stepan, Prust, Boyle, and Fedotenko consistently and by other guys at times.

Why complain about the 750k here or there when you can complain about Gabby's 7.5?

3 goals in his last 30 games last season (35 if you count playoffs)

Slight overpayment but necessary since NYR bought UFA years. I don't really think Boyle is part of "the core" but Torts is high on him and wasn't afraid to mention Boyle in the core, so I've gotta peel back and trust the coach here.

I'm not expecting another 20 goals but if he can pot 12-15, play a solid two-way game, and kill penalties then it's a decent deal here.

Not a fan of the terms. Didn't think he should get over 1.5. Oh well, worst case scenario he regresses again and he goes to the AHL, best case he continues to improve and scores 20+ goals again.

3 years is a good deal. Happy about this. Really dont mind the $1.7 million/year. That's fine by me.

Very nice. I think he's an important player on this team on and off the ice. I'm happy seeing that this group of guys look like they are going to be together for more than a year. I was so sick of the constant roster turnovers. Let's stick with a core for a while and work with it.

I think you're going to see in Philly this year why you don't gut a team and expect it to be the same with comparable replacements.

Good deal, Boyle is a good complementary player on a good team, which hopefully our team will continue to be.

I am fine with the deal.

I was a bit surprised by 3 years, but to only have a cap hit at 1.7 isn't that bad.

If Boyle starts to suck again that contract won't kill us and is definitely movable.

Get those other two minor pieces locked up now

over 82 games thats 4 goals, and 7 assists....

id call 2 mil a year for 3 years GROSS overpayment.

I saw this and thought this deal is fantastic but your assessment is spot on. I'm not as happy at first glance. I do, however, think he will progress over the years slightly so maybe he can turn into that 20-20 guy which at his size and that salary is very nice but odds are against him.

Love this deal. Locks him in long-term, (significantly) under $2MM and 2 of the 3 years are UFA years.

I don't understand the complaints. Everyone realizes that you pay UP for extra years, right? If you were fine with ~$3MM/2yrs, there is no way you should be unhappy with $5.1MM/3 yrs.

Don't forget - unlike Sauer and Anisimov, it's not like he's going to be an RFA when this deal is over.

As long as Brian can continue to be our #1 Pker, play the body, chip in 10-10 this is a fantastic deal. You can't teach size. It's especially hard to find on a player who improved their skating as much as him in 12 months.

Who knows, maybe Boyle becomes the Burrows of this team and plays with Richards and Gaborik.

Good deal, provided we get 10-15 goals out of him again.

His PK work and overall game are valuable, but not worth 1.7 per without reasonable offensive production, too.

those 2 years of UFA could potentially be a gigantic steal

unless his production last year was a fluke

a bit to high for me but if he continues to hit and use his size he'll become worth it

Great deal IMO. Both sides are taking a slight risk but I'm sure both are happy with the terms. Boyle is a great guy off the ice and in the locker room. By giving up 2 UFA years he has made a commitment that he wants to be here and be part of this team. He's potentially passing up a ~3M a year deal on the open market if he continues to improve his game

Fair deal. He put in a lot of extra work last summer and it paid off and he's back to doing more extra work this summer. The guy found a niche and played well with Prust and Fedotenko all year. His numbers tailed off towards the end and in the playoffs he didn't score but he played hard and had the third highest minutes in the playoffs among the forwards. He does a lot of grunt work that doesn't always put him in the limelight but that needs to be done anyway. I'm glad he's back.

I think there's limits to how much more he can improve but even if he can put up relatively the same numbers--offensively and in hits, blocked shots and can continue as a good pk'er--he's worth that kind of money and going from 500+ K to this kind of contract should give him even more confidence that he belongs and is just not another hack tweening between the AHL and NHL.
