It's basically passing speculation off as fact

I love it when sources use the word could in a scenario and pretend that it's actually insightful...

You know what? The Habs could acquire Ovechkin. Pierre Gauthier could become entertaining. The Habs could trade Subban.

Could merely implies that there is a non-zero probability of the scenario occurring. It adds no insight at all and I wish the media would stop using it.

How about using the word "should" instead of "could"

Because he doesn't need to use the word "should". White was a center in the WHL and Enqvis could also be used as a 4th line center, he could still get one though.

Yeah he is begging to not look credible with those captain obvious headlines. Very predictable slow paced off season. I'm really missing NHL action now.

Usually the dog days of summer come around the first week of August. This year it's a good three
weeks before time. With Stamkos, Parise and Doughty still unsigned, the rumor guys should have plenty non credible rumours to offer us. I feel like they are slacking.

At least my mind is set not to expect anything entertaining until end august, september. As for Eklund, he should try a little harder.

nothing can be done/said about either parise or shea weber (till their arbitration cases are done) and in the case of doughty and stamkos you have 2 teams owned by billionaires with a load of capspace and 2 players they intend to build their franchises around and have unequivocally stated that they will match any offer sheet those 2 sign. Rumor mongers COULD try and create something but logic states its pointless and an exercise in futility (not to mention the additional scorn/resentment they'd receive beyond their current massive load)

1) Starting the season with Bailey as our 2nd line center would be such a bold gamble by Gauthier, I love it.
2) Why would the Islanders want Gomez?

To hit the salary cap floor. They currently have over $26 million in cap space.

As far as we know, it's just speculation at this point.

Maybe we could see a Columbus-Philly style trade.

Islanders have too much young talent and want to win now.

To NYI:
Scott Gomez
Brian Gionta

To Montreal:
Nino Niederreiter
Josh Bailey

Not sure, the Cap hit would be most probably the reason

Why not just overpay for a few UFAs?

Just give Scott Hannan a 1-year, 7 million dollar deal or something.

1. Habs won't trade their captain.
2. Isles won't trade Nino
3. Where have you heard that the Isles want to win now?

I've been saying that for months. Florida did it.

However there aren't any UFAs that are worthy of overpayment at this point. Giving Hannan $7 million is plain absurd.
