@dorffxmosh @iltah883107 First of all Gomez has 2 agree 2 trade(Islanders are still on NTC) Snow would give up mid-level player(s) no Bailey

***************
@gpl_03 From what i hear Islanders want back either a 1st rd pick for taking Gomez or a D-Man that would be able to crack lineup this year

So we'd take a mid-level player back and the Islanders want a D-man/1st rounder as well. Could we possibly give them both Gomez and Spacek?

That would give us the cap space to get Hannan to really shore up our defense.

But if no Bailey, who plays center? Cammalleri? I don't see a viable center coming back from the Isles.

I heard this Cap Space guy was pretty awesome.

Look, I love the idea of getting rid of Gomez as much as anyone but it only made sense before July 1st. Now, the market has dried up and we are left without a replacement. Let's just hope that JM has a short leash with Senor so that both DD and Eller get playing time with second line wingers.

If Gomez goes to the Islanders I see a player like Casey Cizikas coming back.

Why would the Isles trade for him and waste a roster spot for him?

If you do that then it's cap circumvention and the league would have to look into it lol.

if that is the case, the only add in would be Spacek. We still can only let Gomez go if we have a legit 2nd line center to replace him, losing Spacek is not as bad though.

The only way we give up a 1st rounder is if we are getting at least a legit second line forward back.

Besides the cap hit, I really don't see any other reason. He isn't a bad player and people in the area know him having played for the Devils and Rangers but who knows what Snow is thinking

Gomez might suprise next year and have a great rebound year... then we'll be begging to keep him.

For the record, I want the team to go forward with Gomez playing 2nd line center for us.

Molson would be really happy keeping him after saving 5 million over the last 2 years of his contract

How many times does this have to be explained?

I hope that was sarcastic, cap hit is the same and Gomez would simply be payed within his role. There's no discount yet...

You would be surprised how many people I work with have no idea how the salary cap works despite them being big fans. They don't get the contracts/cap hit yet

If Gomez played 10-15 minutes instead of 20-23 mins. I think the average would be happy.

Okay, then maybe this should be a sticky:

CAP FLOOR (definition): the minimum cap hit that each team must reach prior to the start of the season. For the 2011-2012 season, the cap floor is $48M.

I'm with you.

There are no better options in the UFA pool, and any trade option would have us accepting something we wouldn't want.

Gomez is a solid player who became a scapegoat last year.

We re obviously all Habs fans here so I dont wanna be a rude, but how on earth was he the scapegoat on a 97 pt team with key injuries?

Gomez is done! If PG can trade him he will and then he will worry about who will play centre. Im sure Prospal or even Morrison could get 40 pts with all the ice time Gomez gets

He has a point.
There is other players who you can spend money on who actually produce instead of trading for Gomez. He has no value, nobody wants him.

The way for Molson to make profit is to win more playoff games.

Every home playoff game has 20,000 bell center tickets going at an average of $100 each (more?), that's 2 million in revenue. Add in box seats, parking, beer, TV rights, radio rights, etc.

Gomez is not done, the consensus seems to be he will bounce back to 50 points and all will be right with the world. Gomez is the catalyst of his line, he is and good playmaker he just needs two guy guys that can finish, MAX and GIO should do the trick.

How would it be circumvention of the cap to give inflated 1-year contracts?

Gauthier and co might be willing to trade Gomez if they have a higher estimate of Eller's present abilities than we do as fans.

If Eller wasn't recovering from a serious shoulder injury, I'd be alot more comfortable trading Gomez...

For the time being, I think keeping Gomez is the best option. His contract will be more desirable next offseason when his salary is 2.35 million dollars less than his cap hit, not to mention I expect him to be more productive with a healthy Pacioretty for a full year, and it gives Eller another year of development time before putting scoring line center pressure on his shoulders...
