I'd suggest Scrimmage: Rinaldo's cheap hit knocks Carter out of elite, proving stats are (or aren't) meaningless.

This thread hasn't got nearly enough references to Greek philosophers, Harry Potter or Wizard of Oz to have gone completely over board.

I mean, how much can you talk about a scrimmage game anyway. Who cares if the thread evolves/sidetracks into another discussion for a while.

I can't wait until the season starts though, when there's actual hockey games to discuss. We always stay on topic then.

Doesn't that new movie come out today?

I was thinking about going to Chinatown today to grab a bite, but if it is, I might as well avoid the crowd.

I've only ever seen one movie theater in all of DC, and you can pretty much bet anyone my age or younger is headed to it.

(And so the OT thread begins.)

HP7/2 got a 97 on rotten tomatoes and is expected to destroy box office records.

...like DESTROY.

JK Rowling has too much money lol.

This is probably the best managed franchise we've ever seen. (Star Wars is definitely still in contention)

Technically discussing anything other than Carter or Richards is OT on the Flyers board.

Ticket prices have increased a lot since Gone With the Wind.

Money grossed is nothing but a publicity stunt by the movie industry to try and get people to keep going to the movies. The only TRUE indication of what is the top movies of all time is NUMBER of ticket sale, not how much money they sell for. Thus, increases in ticket prices aren't a determing factor.

this is also the 8th and final installment of a global phenomenon (in the books) so people are going to be willing to fork out 10 bucks to go and (finally) see the conclusion.

can't forget Pirates of the Caribbean. Dead man's chest is currently 4th on the "Worldwide highest-grossing films" and the fourth installment of the series "On Stranger Tides", which was released this year, is 7th on the list and climbing. Pirates of the Caribbean is the only series with 2 movies in the top 10. Harry Potter does have 4 movies in the top 15 and I'm sure this latest film will be up there soon enough.

Unfortunately there is no list for this but I'm sure if there was one Titanic would be number one. Titanic should also be number one on the "Most Overrated Movies of All Time" list and trust me the genre is not lost on me.

Does anyone know how Testwiude did in camp?
Any chance Sestito, Testwuide or Holstrom knock Nodl off the top 9?

I was more or less touching on the fact that as the price of tickets increase so will the revenue the film earns. Ticket prices have increased so much in the recent years that this movie's sales probably won't even be comparable to Spider-Man let alone Titanic. I think it was like $7.25 for a ticket when I went to see the last Star Wars, now its about $10 at the same theater.

I just looked at the top Box Office movies, and 15 of the top 20 are since 2002, and 18 of the top 25 as well.

I know what you're saying though, its gonna be a big movie.

Yea, that's what I meant pretty much.

Either Titanic or Gone With the Wind most likely.

yea its big...

also, you can see all movies adjusted for inflation here:
http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm
the problem is, you have to account for population changes (but more importantly the fact that theaters were more popular back then...now we have on-demand, hulu, a lot of other stuff)

its like sports, cant really compare gretzky to crobsy in terms of stats OR skills (b/c stats were much more open then, but players train harder now)

just stuff to think about...but it will certainly be the biggest movie in the last 5 years, which is a pretty big deal in itself
