Cullen: Hitting the net

Lots of factors not being considered here so take it with a grain of salt.

Gorges, White and Eller each in the tops of a few "rankings"

Would have thought Gomez would have been on the missing % top list

Guess if you never shoot you can't make a list like this

(Gorges sample size was laughable by the way)

a player won't be on that list if he had less than 20 sog but with 1000 Missed shots

I was going to say, you need to shoot to make the list.

I expect Higgins to be high on that list

I was surprised to see Moen's name on the good side of that list, I never really noticed that he hits the name in a consistent way.

Not a fan of such a low minimum shot total for the players included... there were 181 defensemen with 40 or more shots on goal last season so 20 seems arbitrarily low, possibly making for a lot of noise. With forwards the 360th-ranked guy had 54 shots.

That said, shot volume is a lot more important than minimizing missed shots:

Higgins had 160 shots on goal and 47 missed shots... so he missed the net 22.7% of the time. Looking at the "best" and "worst" forwards that's probably not far from average, though likely slightly below.

All his shots are on breakaways that he never scores on

Moen always hits the net. Or rather, Moen always hits the logo on the goaler's chest

Moen and his stone hands. Ah! Glorious! And then he scored that no-look slap shot at the end of the season. It looked phenomenal until I saw the replay. It was painfully obvious he wasn't aiming/pure luck.

And let's not forget the 4th goal against the pens game 7 2010 playoffs. One of my best happy wtf habs moment. When he sniped that one in, I was like "OMFG we are gonna win this!! we are gonne win this!!, but wtf, how the hell did Moen sniped this? Can we see that more often please ?" And the players were really focused, they were not partying in the bench. They were happy but obviously on a mission...ah good times.
