D should be the whalepack's strong point if they get all of Redden, MDZ, Valentenko, Erixon, Pashnin, Baldwin, although thats speculative considering one or more of those guys may make the big club.
What are the expectations on Baldwin? Will he be making the WhalePack this year? I hope he makes the team otherwise my game worn jersey of his will not make much sense when worn to the games... I'll still wear it because I have no other options but nobody will know who he is.

It's possible. Depends on who makes the Rangers. If two of Valentenko/Erixon/Del Zotto/Kundratek make it, then he's probably on it. If only one makes the big club, the numbers wouldn't be in his favor.
That's a really good AHL top 6, what are you talking about? The defense will be strong. As long as the team gets good play in goal they can have a good season.
Although I do fear that they may be missing that one type of player right now. The Parenteau, Jeremy Williams, etc. type that can so carry an AHL squad when it's struggling.

not really...i mean, i guess they should be a decent squad, problem i see there is very few players who are NHL caliber. they wont be feeding the team many players who can step in and help right away outside of maybe Zucc, Hagelin, and maybe Bourque....i guess Kolarik too.

It's still early. I'd like to see an AHL veteran forward brought in like you.
Honestly one AHL vet like Graham Mink and Giroux, who they have missed the boat on, would be great. The team looks good to me. I say that most years, but that's always because the Rangers supply great talent to this team in Hartford. Some years they just don't put it together.

this has probably been discussed before but does anyone know why (according to hockeydb.com), valentenko only played 15 games in the 2 seasons he went back to russia? was he hurt or did he play outside the khl and its just not reflected?

He was hurt. I think he had a problem with his shoulder that caused him to miss some time.
Wonder if the Rangers are concerned with Valentenko possibly returning to the KHL after this season. His agent Rolland Hedges represents Maksim Mayorov(Columbus prospect) and there are rumors of him playing in the KHL.

#CBJ's Maxim Mayorov is also reportedly headed to the #KHL to join AK Bars Kazan.

I think there's enough call-ups there to suffice with Zuccarello, Weise, Newbury, Kolarik and possibly Bourque and Hagelin if they play deserving of one.
In addition, it's a very strong lineup by AHL standards. Would I like it if our top AHLers were actually prospects that project to be really good NHLers? Sure, but I'll settle for guys destined for the AHL to play with guys like Zucc, Bourque, etc. to create a winning atmosphere for our prospects.
i'm not overly concerned with valentenko threatening to go back to russia after this season. he only does that if he's still in the ahl and that would mean that erixon and del zotto are in the nhl and we have no room for him anyway.

If Valentenko has value, the Rangers should move him.
I think this will be a telling year for Vtank...if he can crack the NHL squad then obviously I think he stays, but if he spends the year riding buses in Hartford then I don't know if he'll stick around NA next off-season.

Or he should play for the Rangers should he make the team. Being the last year of his contract, if he doesn't get a sniff of the NHL, he will surely bolt but if he can make it a la Sauer, even for the 2nd half of the season, chances of him resigning and staying should be good and any questions of him becoming the player we think he can be should be answered.
