Man, was he ever right about the Detroit defensive edge and those deadly odd-man rushes.

Not a mention about the goaltending. I remember going in I thought the Flyers had an edge. Vernon really hadn't had a good playoffs since Calgary's cup year in 89 and either Snow or Hextall would outplay him, didn't really matter who . . . .

I can laugh about it now.

I had no illusions of us winning that year. The east was pretty weak that year, and we just tore through everyone. Detroit was uber special that year and we had to be the damn the team to end their drought, same with the Blackhawks, oh and the bruins too. Damn if you want to end your drought just go through the freakin flyers. I pray we never play Vancouver in a cup final.

Oh how things have changed. 25 shots on goal seeming like a lot compared to Detroit's 21.

Detroit's defense was quite good though.

i dont believe you. Everyone thought we were gonna win. Nobody knew detroit would man handle us the way they did. it was all about that 4th line they had. shut us down. oh, that and we choked.

The big thing was Bowman using Lidstrom & Murphy against the LOD instead of Konstantinov.

Instead of the anticipated physical battle of the Big E vs. the Vladinator, we had a game of keep away that completely confused the LOD and rendered them impotent.

The only players that looked any good in that series were 17 & 37.

That was a great year up until the finals. Flyers steam rolled the Rangers, Pens, and Sabres I believe. They were the favorites going into the finals for sure.

From what I remember Detroit's speed, our goaltending, and Lindros' propensity to disappear when the going got tough, was the difference.

I loved 88, but seems like he feasted on weaker teams and tucked tail against NJ, Detroit, etc.

Flyers were the pick of most going in. Dropping what were really winnable games at home and going down 0-2 was the problem. Vernon was really the difference. He stood on his head. Snow and Hextall fell on their *****.
