Why would EDM do this? It's been posted in this thread, Boychuk has absolutely no value to Edmonton. We're trying to add size, not more small skilled forwards. EDM gives up the higher pick and the better player by quite a large margin.

I would love to get Gleason, but this proposal is laughable.

Does Edmonton want defensemen that are ready to contribute on NHL level, or are they looking for D prospects?

hemmer to carolina would be a perfect fit. but jr better be careful not to give to much for a guy that will prolly only suit up for 40 games and then might leave.

You have to remember, this isn't a player that we need to trade because we feel like he is definitely going to walk on July 1 for nothing, so the alternative to trading him is being able to sign him long-term if he stays healthy this year.

Hemsky has been dealing with shoulder pain for years from a few dirty hits, so finally he has both shoulders fixed and says that he feels the best he has in years, so IMO they will wait to see how he plays the first 50 games and then re-evaluate.

If he is playing very well and is healthy, then they will have lots of options. His value could be very high at that point, but we can also start talking a new deal as well, so I doubt they would trade him now unless they got their asking price.
The fact that EDM's reluctant to get an extension done until Hemsky proves he's healthy underscores the point. Their asking price and the selling price will be less than before the trading deadline. Look, it's not a matter of just shoulder pain. It's a torn labrum and he's had to have surgery on both shoulders now over the last couple of years. That's a big red flag and feeling and good at this point and being able to play with it aren't one and the same.

Well, the fact is he's tried playing through the injury before, and then ended up having to get the surgery done anyways. Even when he has been in the lineup, he's been dealing with it and thinking that he can play through it, which obviously didn't work out very well.

As far as their asking price, it will remain as high as ever until they believe they can't keep him. If at one point his value was a 1st + really good prospect, I doubt they are going to jump on taking anyone offering a 1st round pick just because they believe that's the best it's going to get. You only do that when you have no other options.

Regardless of that though, I'm of the believe he will stay in Edmonton long-term, and I think the Oilers believe that as well, which allows them to ask for more than perhaps what the fair value would be for an injury prone player on the last year of his deal.

In the end, Hemsky met his girlfriend in Edmonton, has family and friends here, and has been here his entire career and has said he loves the city and the young players coming up in the system, so the only way I see Hemmer being traded is if they have a meeting before the trade deadline and he maintains he wants to test FA on July 1st or that he wants 6+ million a year.

Up and comers would be preferred.

Just for conversations sake, it's more or less a guarantee that McBain isn't going anywhere and Boychuk is an apparent non-starter, so just curious from an EDM stand point, what else do the 'Canes have in the pipeline that tickle your fancy? Alt, Dumolin, Faulk, Levi, Bowman etc.?

Alt and Faulk would be two of interest
