When did you start following the team/first memory thread

I'll start.

First year: 79'-80. I was 7 years old. The year of the 35 game unbeaten streak and the finals loss to the Isles.

First memory: Bob Nystrom's overtime goal vs. Flyers May 24, 1980 in Game 6 of the finals in OT. I was crushed and a dynasty was born.

Also the series of the most blatant offsides non call I've ever seen leading to an Isles goal

33 seconds into this video will make you sick to your stomach. 2 feet offsides right in front of the linesman who later admitted he blew the call. Thanks

April 2, 1972 when Gerry Meehan scored with four seconds to play to give Buffalo a win in the last game of the regular season; a tie would have given the Flyers a playoff spot.

And no, Charlie, I didn't start a Wiffle Ball brawl.

1974 between the semis and the final. I decided to ditch the Leafs and I loved Bobby Clarke and the Bullies!

First season I really remember was the 2000 season. I still remember that patch they all wore.

I have followed them ever since.

When we first got Lindros.

My Brother was a fan of the Mid Eighty Flyer teams, and he video taped all those games. We use to watch them before the 95 conference championship games to get us pumped up.

First Memory: The huge brawl with the Senators in 03-04. I remember begging my mom just to finish watching the last 10 minutes of the third, telling her it wouldn't take more than 15 minutes.

Although I always followed the Flyers, I started considering myself a "die hard" in the 08-09 season.

What is your age? We can probably find the exact game.

Could it be off the late penalty shot against Atlanta, an afternoon game?

Wasn't it the overtime goal against new York?
Lifelong fan from same town as Ron Hextall, and province as Bobby Clarke. Born into it I guess. Really caught fire in 99/00 playoffs. Boucher brilliance, Leclair goal through net and that guy from buffalo got that welt on his forehead that swelled up as the tv camera rolled, the primeau overtime goal against the jagr captained penguins, and the unfortunate return of the big E and all that resulted/fell short

Good stuff! Keep em coming. Good to see some old heads in here. Older than me even.

Loved the 84'-88' teams. I always go back to those teams. So close and so much heart

That was seven seconds into OT? I thought of that, too, which is why I asked his age and it was at NY. One came in 2004 and the other in 2006, IIRC.

The penalty shot/OT goal against the Rangers was by Handzus.

I don't remember exactly when. My first hockey memory is NHL 94 for Sega when I was like seven. I would watch the games on TV then play the games on Sega the next day.

Got surgery and was doped up sitting my hospital bed, the TV was on and it was the Flyers. I couldn't change the channel and it was driving me ****ing mad, at that time I never gave hockey a chance. I was so bored and pissed off I just sat there and watched it angrily... and at the end of the game I was like "wasn't bad" and caught another game a couple days later on accident and watched it while I was eating chicken parm (yes i remember **** you).

that's how it all began.

I don't remember my exact age, but it was Flyers vs Penguins in the playoffs. Well I was with my dad, uncle, and little cousin, and my uncle took a huge dump and stunk up the whole room. Then the Flyers lost, but I thought Lindros and LeClair were frigging awesome, so I got hooked.

I dont remember my earliest specifics other then my dad used to always basically quiz me on who was on the team by there numbers. The first real memory I remember vividly is Mark Recchi being traded. He was my favorite player ad I was still in preschool when I found out and cried the whole way home

When they signed Forsberg. I grew up around hockey (my dad has played all his life) but never really followed the Flyers for some reason. When they announced that they signed Forsberg, my dad told me that I had to see this guy play. Ever since then I've been a die hard.

I'm only 17, so its not a very old memory lol

Around '95. I loved Hextall, then when Lindros came I just fell in love.

That is one of my favorite memories! My uncle and I were talking hockey a few years ago, and I told him the Zeus goal was probably my favorite goal (up to that point), and he made mention of propps 4 goal game as his.

The start of the 73/74 season. I was 7-years old and had just started playing ice hockey (I played for the Holy Name Jets, our home games were at the Hershey Bears practice rink and our practice rink was an outdoor one right at the church, I remember very vividly how the one end of the rink had bad ice because of ice/water/debris fallling off trees at that end of the rink). I remeber that was the year of their first cup and I was in bed for game 6 and when the Flyers scored my parents jumped up screaming and called me out so I could watch part of the game. I still had to go back to bed but I remember lying awake listening to the game on the TV. Great start to becoming a life long flyers fan.

I've had season tickets in my family for years, but that was one of my favorite moments as a Flyers fan, if not my favorite.

Game 7 loss to Tampa in the 04 ECF. I was in a hotel at the time and had a miserable rest of the trip.

I first started following the team around 95-96 around 7 years old. I used to watch the games with my cousin and uncle. The first memory that comes to mind is a huge fight with the Blues. I still look for it online with no luck. It might have been a old rerun. Also getting swept by Detroit, and the legion of doom sticks out from my childhood Flyers memories .

I was a Caps fan (I'm from DC) until the 2004 semis vs. Toronto. I was 10 years old and I remember seeing Tucker wreck Kapanen, then I remember Roenick winning the game. I was so happy that Kapanen's team won, and I loved the Flyers colors too.

Then in the ECF against Tampa, I desperately wanted Tampa to lose because I HATED Dave Andreychuk. I had some weird obsession with hating that guy. He was by far my least favorite player, so I cheered for the Flyers and I remember seeing the orange crowd at the Wachovia Center, and from then on, I was a Flyers fan.

I was devastated when they lost game 7 to Tampa. I never had that feeling again til game 6 against Chicago.
