Ray Whitney

What is everyone's opinion of him? He's an UFA after this season and could stengthen the powerplay. What would it take to get him here, seeing as we seem to have a decent trade relationship with the 'yotes...

He has a NMC.

I doubt he waives.

He probably won't waive his NMC...however just for the sake of argument...PHX is in short supply of centers and goal scoring, the latter of which Whitney provides alot of.

I think he absolutely WOULD waive his nmc to come to the rangers at the deadline assuming the coyotes aren't in the playoff picture and the rangers are. I wouldn't be opposed to it under the right circumstances.

He'll just wind up on Carolina again.

I think Jason Blake would be a cheaper/more realistic target.

That's not to say I want J. Blake.

At the deadline, he'll be a terrifiic acquisition for someone if the Coyotes are sellers.

Hmm. Sign Prospal for one year.

Prospal. Richards. Gaborik
Dubinsky. Anisimov. Callahan
Whitney. Stepan. Fedotenko
Rupp/Avery. Boyle. Prust

Not bad, IMO.

What would it cost to get Whitney (assuming he waives his NMC)?

Do you think Hagelin has a shot at the team this year. Also, should the Rangers give up on Zuccarello?

Zuccarello needs to prove he developed the strength and speed he lacked last season.

Hagelin has a shot.

Id like Hagelin in the NHL. But id also like to win.

But we were discussing the possibility of adding Whitney.

Whitney is a proven player and a Stanley Cup champ. Which would go a long way for a mostly young team looking to go deep into the playoffs.

Whitney could help Stepan a lot. Right handed scorer on the LW.

For one year.

Couldn't hurt. Dependant on price.

Supersonic - thanks for the reply. For one year, I could see it. The 3rd line is awfully crowded. I am sure Erik Christensen is going to be the spare forward. I also forgot to mention Wolski. He is likely going to be on the team. I want to win now too but part of me sees 2012, 2013, as a more realistic chance.

Good post though.

Im not 100% sure Wolski will be here when all is said and done by October.

But I agree that in 1-2 years this team will be more ready for a Cup run.

But, still, hoping these young guys on the team and coming up in the next couple years, are inserted into a winning environment.

Getting a vet RHD for Erixon would be great.

And a guy like Whitney could really help Stepan's progress this season.

And makes things that much easier to plug in a kid like Kreider, McIlrath into those spots the year after and continue to progress that way.

But who knows what Sather will do.

Maybe we see a move after he gets Dubi and Cally signed so he knows how much cap space he has to allocate toward filling other holes.

If the powerplay is struggling and the Yotes are dangling Whitney around the league you can bet he would garner interest from NYR.

I'm not trading any assets or picks for a guy who's going to be 40 this season. I thought we were done with that method of trying to build a team.

this is the kind of guy you want for a stanley cup run.. always seems to score big goals and the right time.. so small but smart, disappears and reappears.. but rangers have too many fowards.. how about:

wolski for whitney..

Yes please, perfect fit for line #2, and this can move Dubi to play with Richards and Gabby. I wouldn't offer more than a 2nd a roster filler though.

Whitney wouldn't waive his NTC to go to LA two seasons ago unless they gave him an extension.

Apparently St. Louis was the only team with any interest in Grachev so...

Considering he outscored everyone on this team with 57 points in 75 games, i'd definitely grab him at the deadline. If he can still play at a high level and the season is showing we're the real deal, how much does losing a mid-level prospect and a 2nd/3rd really hurt?

This would be the kind of deal where Erik Christensen would be shipped out with another asset (pick or prospect) but unless PHX is way out of it and he wants another shot at the Cup (who doesn't?) then sure. But I can guarantee that as long as Tippett is there Wolski will not go the other way. He was shipped out because Tip didn't like the way he played and his attitude so might as well shoot that down now.

Why would the Rangers give up on Zuccs? He didn't even play a full year with the rangers. If he would have played a full season his stats would have been on par with Dubinsky's first year, and he didn't have the luxury of playing with Jagr.

Always liked the guy. Solid second tier scorer. One of those underrated dudes like a Stillman or Ronning who always put up 57-65 points.

Depends a lot on where the Rangers are/where Phoenix is and what they'd want.

If the Rangers are in a guaranteed prime playoff position and Phoenix is asking for let's say a 2nd plus a pretty good prospect (Kundratek/Fogerty/Mcolgan) do you pull the trigger?
