Weise has been a better scorer in the AHL, but how will that scoring touch translate to the pros? I don't think it will. I think he, like Thuresson, will be a fourth line player always on the bubble going into camp each year.

I have no issue with Weise over Thuresson at this point, but I think in terms of NHL projectability they're extremely close in value.

Why did Nashville trade Thurr for Brodie Dupont who looks to be a career minor leaguer if he can be an NHL regular in any capacity? Dupont will stay on the second line in the AHL for the rest of his career, getting call ups only when injured hit really bad and even then, he'll get very minor ice time for a game or two at most.

Odds are against Dupont scoring a single goal in the NHL.

And that means that he won't be anything at the NHL level because?

Because normally a team does not surrender an NHLer for a minor leaguer.

Why did they trade Thuresson, a middling fourth line-type, for Dupont, a middling fourth-line type? Because they don't need any more middling fourth line-types, so they figured maybe they could catch lightning in a bottle with Dupont. At worst, they break even...giving up mediocrity for more mediocrity.

Weise probably could have been an fourth liner on some NHL teams last year, no? Why wasn't he on ours? Because we have plenty of guys that are more established to play fourth line minutes. So he sits in Hartford. Same situation for Thuresson. Really, same situation for Dupont.

Again, I have no problem with having Weise ahead of Thuresson in any ranking. I just don't believe the difference between the two is at all substantial. After this year, which Weise will likely spend all or most of in Hartford, he'll find himself in a similar situation to Thuresson and Dupont--decent to good AHL players that can't do enough to establish themselves in a bottom six role on a decent NHL club.

You can quote all the stats and scouting reports and provide all the Gordie Clark quotes you want. They're all great, and I can't dispute them. I'm just relying on my eyes and my knowledge of the game, both of which tell me Dale Weise doesn't have "it." I said the same thing about Brodie Dupont, the same thing about Greg Moore, Alex Giroux and Chad Wiseman. Didn't have the extra gear to become NHL regulars.

However, I also said the same thing about Dan Girardi, so I've been wrong before.

Greg Moore did not score double digits until he was 2.5 years older than when Weise scored almost 30 goals in about 70 games. Moore never had the skill that Weise has.

I think Moore was close to the NHL. I think Weise is already one level above Moore. And I think Weise will take another step forward.

The kid will get into some games this year, and in 2012-13, he will be an NHL regular. Feds, Christ and Wolski will be gone, opening a spot for someone. That opens a spot for Kreider, someone to sign with Wolski money (probably someone a little more expensive and significantly better) and one role player. That role player will probably be Weise since he can play all three positions.

UFA - Brad - Gaborik
Dubinsky - Anisimov - Callahan
Kreider - Stepan - Zuccarello
Hagelin - Boyle - Prust

13/14 Forwards: Rupp, Weise

Being a #14 forward should be an opportunity for him to get into close to a third of the games seeing as maybe half the games during midseason have at least 1-2 injuries.

If he proves himself a competent forward, I am sure the Rangers would make space for him.

If not, I would not mind him as a #14 so long as he shows even minor improvement over last year.

Either way, he should be at least as useful to us in the future as Kypreos was in 1993-94, though I have hope that he could develop to become what Greg Gilbert was that year.

But you're stating that he won't become an NHL regular - even on the fourth line - because of who he was traded for...

Pashnin, add Noreau

Also going up to 25 with possibly 5 or so honorable mentions makes sense.
