Would you walk away from the sport you love, leaving $20,000,000 on the table for 36 months of 'work'?
I definately would not Then again I am not set for life from previous contracts. Redden himself said that he was thinking of breaking contract so he can catch on with an NHL team. I was hoping that situation would occur, but it seems that he does not mind being washed up in the AHL as long as he is getting that fat paycheck.
I myself do not blame the guy one bit, he signed the contract and he deserves to be able to ride that contract out and get paid the money that he is rightfully owed.
Cap geek has Thuresson making $105,000 AHL. Same as Kolarik and Mitchell. They are not subject to re-entry waivers. $105k is the most AHL salary a player can make without needing re-entry waivers.
Stu Bickel and Chad Johnson have until tomorrow at 5pm to sign their QOs. They have a huge logjam ahead of them. Probably aren't too happy they were qualified. The Rangers are allowed to offer less than the QO and still retain the rights if they don't sign the 1 year tender offer.
how much left for Dubi , Cally and perhaps a 7th D?
I believe I heard roughly 11 mil left. So if worst case Cally and Dubi fetch a combined 9 mil, we'll have 2 mil left for a 7th dman or Prospal or both. Best case we get around 3 mil.

With 14 forwards though. At the very least, one will be gone. If it's Wolski, we open up a hefty amount of space for the deadline.
Hey Guys - I'm projecting about $1.5M in cap space in a depth chart for my NYR blog post. Let me know your feedback on that and the rest of the content. Cheers.

the only things I see different are Dubi and Cally will make about 500K more per yr roughly. 3.5 is likely low for them
Also no pt to keep 2 spare F so because there are guys with more experience I unfortunately see Zuke down but he would get called up if anyone gets hurt
Also one of Vtank, DZ and Erixon goes down as there is no pt to keep a younger player as a spare unless of course Vtank does not have any options then I think he must as they would lose him
Also next yr and maybe even during this year EC is gone, maybe Avery but or sure they are both gone next yr and they should let Feds walk to.
Kreider ,Hagelin , Thomas, it should be exiting easing these kids into the lineup. Maybe even Lindberg, Fasth soon
Brandon Dubinsky signed for 5 years at $4,2 M cap hit
Ryan Callahan signed for 5 years at $4,2 M cap hit
Vaclav Prospal signed for around 1 million for a one year contract (he has already exceded in salary what his original 4 year deal with The Bolts /where he was bought out/ gave him so he will most likely be very cheap esp. given injury concerns)
A vet D (Eminger, Lepisto...??) brought in as a 6/7th D alt acquired through trade (Fistric for Christensen+?)
Eric Christensen traded or waived/sent down at camp
With a plethora of line options - we could see something like this:
FORWARDS
Wojtek Wolski ($3.800m) / Brad Richards ($6.666m) / Marian Gaborik ($7.500m)
Brandon Dubinsky ($4.200m) / Derek Stepan ($0.875m) / Ryan Callahan ($4.200m)
Vinny Prospal ($1.100m) / Artem Anisimov ($1.875m) / Ruslan Fedotenko ($1.400m)
Sean Avery ($1.937m) / Brian Boyle ($1.700m) / Brandon Prust ($0.800m)
Michael Rupp ($1.500m) / Mats Zuccarello-Aasen ($1.750m)
DEFENSEMEN
Marc Staal ($3.975m) / Daniel Girardi ($3.325m)
Ryan McDonagh ($1.300m) / Mike Sauer ($1.250m)
Pavel Valentenko ($0.850m) / Tim Erixon ($1.750m) VET UFA Defender ($1.000m)
GOALTENDERS
Henrik Lundqvist ($6.875m) Martin Biron ($0.875m)
BUYOUTS
Chris Drury ($3.716m)
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000
CAP PAYROLL: $64,220,834
BONUSES: $2,125,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $79,166
After this - as the given capspace on this above illustrated troup is a bit too small - I believe maybe MZA will be starting in Hartford. Or Avery bought out (do not like but it is possible). Or a trade.
Also - maybe a guy like Carl Hagelin or John Mitchell takes MZA:s spot as #23 on the team - thereby saving about a million in salary. Or Vinny P is not resigned.
If we want to we only have one spare FWD - meaning we would have a 22 man troup being around 1,8 M under the cap. Lots of prorated space at deadline!
Plethora of possibilities!!!!
Also another point - I believe that MZAs contract is full of very tough to attain performance bonuses (like most Europeans get when they sign their first contracts direct to the NHL) he most likely will not achieve (this is something the Rangers brass know very well) - so his real cap hit at the end of the year might be a bit smaller than we are led to believe and The Rangers brass knowing this can be very close to cap ceiling. And it might save us from overage in cap space being taken over from last year as we were all counting MZA:s full salary including reaching all performance bonuses (ie salary = $1,75 M) when we counted the final caphit from last year. No?
Ev Hartford callups could be MZA (waiver exempt), Hagelin (waiver exempt), Mitchell, Thuresson, Newbury... on FW and MDZ (waiver exempt), Kundratek (waiver exempt), Pashnin (?) on D.
See - no problems AT ALL capwise!!!!
This team at least looks very good on paper. Most holes from last year are in theory filled.
Lacks a little vet prescence on the D - most likely sure to be brought in at the deadline a la Sathers annual deadline experiments...

Thanks for the feedback. You're right about Dubby and Cally -- considering what Ladd and Stafford got this off-season -- and as a result, I've adjusted the two Rangers up to $4m. And as you rightly suggested, I've also dropped Vtank to reduce the roster to a viable 22-man unit. That still leaves the team with ~$1.4m to add/bank with.
Are those numbers what they actually got paid during the season?
Zucca would have earned 438k in 100 days, right?
Then 940k has to be with bonuses included?

No, that's not how much they get paid. That's just the cap hit (the average salary of the contract).
I'm not sure how to really calculate how much players get paid on two way contracts, but I would guess he made:
$483,871 in NHL salary, $900,000 extra in bonuses, plus the $90,000 signing bonus. I also believe he made $31,182 in the AHL, so I think he made a total of $1,505,053.

Ok
But I thought he did not reached any bonuses? Did not scored 20 goals, not 45 points total ect.
Which bonuses did he achieve?

I don't think he earned any of the bonuses, but for the purposes of the summer cap hit, I guess that is included because he can still earn them next year.
Oh I thought he earned his bonuses. I'm not sure about that, so taking off the $900,000 would be $605,053.
I posted this somewhere the other day where I said I believe he did not make most - if not all - of his $900.000 bonuses. Quite sure that this is the case, probably also meaning that we will receive little - if any - cap penalty moved over to this year for bonus overage (Vinny P) from the 2010-2011 season. RB knows this better tho...
Prospal had $1.4M games played bonus. Reportedly,it was a 10 games played bonus. Reached it.
Stepan had a $162,500 bonus. Probably reached it. Stepan spent the entire year on the roster and played all 82 games.
Zucca has $850,000 in performance bonus. McDonagh at $425,000. MDZ at $212,500. Are they mostly games played bonuses? That information is not available.
The Rangers will take a cap penalty but the exact number has not been leaked to Capgeek yet.

Looks like you were incorrect. The Rangers have no overage penalty.

Good news for #NYR on cap: MT @capgeek: ~$1.4m PHI bonus overage per @tpanotchCSN, Canucks have $15K penalty. No overages for PIT, Rangers.
