Kalinski signs 1 year contract

Renaud Lavoie (RDS) reports via twitter that Kalinski signed:

Quote:
#flyers Jonathon Kalinski 1 year / 605 000 (2 way)

There's 50.

That means unless we trade someone, Couturier will not be on this team though I'd like us to ink him up at least before sending him back to juniors.

Right now, Noebels slides.

So how many contracts do we have now? Capgeek lists a total of 48 players signed, and that doesn't seem to include Bacashihua or Noebels.

Hartnell, Briere, Jagr, vanRiemsdyk, Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn, Nodl, Read, Wellwood, Testwuide (12)

Talbot, Betts, Shelley, Sestito, Rinaldo, Holmstrom, Laperriere (7)

Timonen, Pronger, Meszaros, Coburn, Carle, Gustafsson, Walker, Bartulis, Lilja, Marshall (10)

Bryzgalov, Bobrovsky, Leighton (3)

Rowe, Brown, Akeson, Zolnierczyk, Legein, McGinn, Pither, Harper, Kalinski, (Noebels) (10)

Manning, Bourdon, Lehtivuori, Lauridsen, Hostetter, Jancevski (6)

Hovinen, Backlund, Bacashua (3)

TOTAL: 51 (including Noebels)

Next Year:

UFA - Jagr, Laperriere, Betts, Carle, Coburn, Leighton, Backlund, Jancevski, Bacashua

RFA - Voracek, vanRiemsdyk, Testwuide, Rowe, Zolnierczyk, Bourdon, Lehtivuori, Marshall, Legein, Holmstrom, Sestito, Kalinski

We drop 21 contracts (before the obvious re-signing of many of them) putting us at 30. We're back in good shape next offseason.

Not sure why we signed him the guys I would like to see competing for final NHL roster spots are Read, Testwuide, Wellwood, Akeson, Pither, Zolnierczyk, Manning, and Lauridsen. I don't see where Kalinski fits in the mix except AHL and I don't know why we would waste #50 on an AHL player. I think something's up. Not sure what, but something that gets rid of a few contracts.

I still have some hopes for Kalinski. He had a down year last season, but iirc back in the 09-10 playoffs I think most of us wanted to give him a chance rather than Nödl. He's done fairly well when called up after all.

Meh. Don't really care either way on this one. Probably just a guy to play on the Phantoms and maybe get called up in a pinch.

I was under the impression that Noebels wouldn't count toward the 50 contract limit if/when he is sent back to juniors.

Why is it exactly there hasn't been an official announcement of the Bacashihua signing?

It even goes back further than that. I remember the Powe versus Kalinsky argument just before he hurt his leg.

Also: won't Hovinen slide as well this year?

Theoretically, if Hovinen does slide, then so does Lehtivuori.

not true, we can still sign him

and if Couturier has a good enough camp, a useless player player would be moved

i dont see the rush to sign him if he isnt ready

Yeah, I wanted both Powe and Kalinski on the 4th line. That would have been a pretty speedy energy line.

if we are still at 50 contracts Couturier would have to sign a PTO to get in preseason games I believe.

capgeek has us at 48 without Bacashihua,Noebels and Kalinski. I counted the contracts to be sure they werent counting Kalinski QO has a contract.

I know we have candidates to slide but I didnt think you could go over that 50 contract limit without sliding a player.

make or break year for kalinski. i think it comes down to how he comes to camp. if he see this as an opportunity then there is one but if he comes in thinking the spot is his to lose hell be an ahler for sure

He had to sign a 2 way deal. What would possibly give him the idea that a spot on the Flyers is his to lose? He also did not earn a single call up last Season.

It is the other way around with young players. They don't count against the contract limit until they played the tenth game. We can still sign Couturier, Ranford ... and so on, every 18 or 19 year old player, as long as they don't play 10 NHL games.
