ISLANDERS DO SOME RAKING

"You can throw all the hits you want and all the punches you want, but the scoreboard tells it all," Eric Cairns said after his best game of the year. "We got the two points."

"I was a little surprised it wasn't a full house," Michael Peca said. "It would have been nice to play in front of a full house."

Bitterness boils over

Most of the abuse Darcy Tucker and his Maple Leaf teammates absorbed during their 5-2 loss to the New York Islanders last night came from the mediocre-sized house of 11,544.

It was a strange night for the Leafs, who held an opponent to just 15 shots for the second consecutive game. Too many bad turnovers proved to be their downfall.

Leafs Watch

Janne Niinimaa thought he was going to be a Maple Leaf.

"At one point I thought it was a done deal."

But it was not to be. After asking about Darcy Tucker, the deal fell through when the Oilers started inquiring about Nik Antropov.

"It would have been interesting," Niinimaa said. "But I'm getting more comfortable here."

Looks like the 'premium seating' pricing adjustment backfired against the NYI.

Yes, a Monday game is unusual, but this looked more like a game vs. NASH, CAL, CLB on a Monday night.

No excuses: No World Series, Decent MNF match-up but not enough to pass up NYI v. TOR.

So, it looks like the premium pricing may only work with the NYR games b/c whatever NYI fans will not pay, NYR will pay to travel less distance/money to NYC to see their own team play at home.

The significant drawback here: the premium seating and increased tix prices are going to significantly reduce walk-up ticket sales. Which is how the Isles were able to sell out many games over the past two years.

Also, this game shows the season tix base and mini-game package attendance. B/c TOR was included in all tix packages to entice fans to buy the seats.

scroll down: did you see the FANX profile? the guy answers the "number on your jersey" question with "19. Yashin is just an elite player. He's in a league of his own."

Unless Yashin suddenly turned into Bryan Trottier, he might have a point. But I'm highly doubting that...
