Rangers here.

We still finished 8th last year with injuries and our best offensive player being injured and having an off year. Add Gaborik hopefully back to his normal production, addition of Richards, and another year for our young defensemen, we will be a top 5 team in the East.

Given how close this is I wonder how long before the 4th power ranking gets called.

right now its 45-43...if the rangers open up a 5 vote lead ill call it...otherwise ill do a tiebreaker.

its 47-73 including the 1 mistake vote...4 vote lead...id like 1 more before i call it, if not, its going to a tiebreaker.

If Pronger isn't held back by injuries, if Timonen's age doesn't slow him down, if Meszaros doesn't revert back to sucking again, etc. If all of their defensemen play to their potential, then yeah, their defense is scary. But there are question marks. And I think their offense took a beating over the summer with the losses of Richards, Carter, and Leino. Color me skeptical.

Your forgetting about the steps JVR took in the late end/playoffs and how good Giroux is becoming. Call me Crazy but I think these two players could potentially be better than Richards/Carter by the end of next year.

Carter + Richards + JVR + Giroux > JVR + Giroux + Schenn + Simmonds.
