If Markov stays healthy this is a great signing...this guys stupid. Andrei get's between 45 and 60 points every full season he plays, he's also great in his own zone, barley makes mistakes, and if he does he quietly makes up for it.
He's clearly shown that if healthy he's even capable of 70-75 points. This isn't as far fetched as it sounds check this.
78gp 12g 52a 64pts
So basically he missed 4 games. The guy does produce pretty much almost a ppg as a D. He puts up a point 4/5 games as a D lol... actually a bit more (Referring to season above)
Imagine if he were to play 82 games and have a career year? This is the best team Markov has ever had in front of him. We actually have some potency to our line-up now. If he can remain healthy god help the rest of the conference.
Yea habs should have let him walk. What were they thinking bringing back a number 1 defenseman.
Seriously. But when it comes to the Habs making decisions, it's always a bad one when interpreted by the media outside of Montreal. It's quite annoying but we get it; we are not liked.
Markov is a #1 D. No ifs and buts about it. Can you imagine letting him go to FA on July 1st? Offers would've been out of this world. Plus it's only a three year contract. If he plummets, we shove him on LTIR for the rest of his contract and we move on. What's not to like?
Nothing here, some article but some no name 16 year old kid who thinks he knows hockey. That is one of the downsides of the internet and blogs, everyone is suddenly an expert.
Markov in 2009 before the injury was on his way to his best season ever in the NHL, pro rated to 70 points. That could have been good enough for second behind Mike Green. Season before that he did in fact finish second to Mike Green.
Habs were willing to pay Markov 5+ for however long knowing the deal. If he gets hurt in the same fashion, not much likely hood he will be returning and goes on LTIR, we sign someone else. He does not get hurt and plays all season, gets a low 45 points, we are golden.
Either way the team wins. The only scenario we would lose is if Markov can no longer skate, pass or shoot.
I've had my concerns about the markov deal I think he's getting paid too much, but that being said i'm soooooo glad he's back. But if he gets hurt on a routine hit like last time i'm gonna be pretty freaking angry
Markov was drafted & developed by the Habs and is the longest serving player on the team. He's played in this market this whole career and the Habs know exactly what to expect from him (although the injuries are a bit of a gamble)
I'd rather throw money at him than some FA who flops because he can't handle it here like so many others.
My only fear is now that he has been labelled as "injury prone" you are going to have some (insert your fav Bruin goon here) slew foot him to test out that knee of his.
Loses all credibility when he refers to Ehrhoff and Tanguay as good signings. The length of the Ehrhoff deal alone is enough to void any possibility of it being good. 5 years should be the max length of deal.
Markov has way more upside than any of the other D signings, and could potentially be a steal. Worst case scenario is that he gets hurt but we've got Subby and can sign another D. If he hurts and sucks and can't handle the minutes we're used to giving him(highly unlikely), then he still eats decent minutes and adds valuable experience in diminished role. I don't think he's forgotten how to QB a PP and... arguably he's the best in the league, based soley on the fact that our PP has been lethal with him and always ranked #1 or 2 with him in lineup.

So much this. People don't seem to realize this enough.
I'm very happy with Markov's contract. Yes, it's certainly a risk, but it could also turn out to be a real bargain for us. The guy is our best player and is definitely worth taking a chance on.
