He was rushed into the NHL instead of dominating in juniors and learning in the minors. He had a respectable second year as third line center, but we expected him to be a #2 center behind Koivu. His third year was pretty bad as fourth line center and healthy scratch. And he missed last year with a knee injury.
He really does have a chance to turn it around, but seriously, I'd probably only move Sheppard for a similar project defenseman. We have so damn many forwards that Caputi would not see one second of NHL ice time in the next four years. Sheppard has an outside chance of becoming a fourth, maybe even a third line center if he spends some time in Houston re-learning his game.
