After we sign Gorges,I'd like to see PG pursue Winchester, huge guy(6'5, 230 LBS) that can fight and still play hockey, I believe he had 10 goals last season. Then we could have a lineup that would look a little like this.

Cammalleri-Plekanec-Cole
Pacioretty-Gomez-Gionta
Desharnais-Eller-Kostitsyn
Moen-White-Winchester

13th: Darche

Markov-Gorges
Gill-Subban
Yemelin-Weber

7th: Spacek

S: Price
B:Budaj

I like it but we don't know yet if DD can play on wings in the NHL, and if White can still play center at this level.

... and I think basically all of us are lacking that pro scouting evaluation perspective. I don't think there are very many who have a) watched him at all in recent years, b) the pro scouting skills to say meaningfully one way or the other whether he can be a top-6 NHL defenseman or not. The KHL is full of guys who couldn't play in the NHL. Some of the best players in the KHL couldn't play in the NHL. So the criterion of the league he played in... and even his statistical performance or prominence on his team's depth chart over there... doesn't really mean very much by itself.
How did he play against NHL players at the World Championships?

I know DD hasn't much experience at the wing, but he looked pretty good beside Gomez and Gionta until he got hurt, not exactly sure about White, didn't he play center in the preseason?

It's still a projection, the World Championships still isn't quite the NHL. But it's not a tournament that I follow with any interest, so I don't have an answer. Probably more than half the players in that tournament don't play in the NHL. And many of the ones who do play in the NHL are probably a bit worn down and not going at NHL speed, with NHL familiarity with their lines and systems and so on. It would certainly help to have watched him and been impressed by his play in the WC all the same. But even if I had, it still wouldn't have convinced me that he could be relied on for our coming season.

That is exactly what I would do with what we already have.. But Spacek will probably play before Weber or Yemelin do. Same thing with Darche. And I'm pretty sure they won't sign Winchester. He would already been signed by now, especially with 7.6M left under the cap.

My final move would be to obtain another legitimate top 4 d-man to replace the one of two lost. Markov replaces one of those and Subban is a legitimate top 4 anchored by Hal Gill.

But I don't expect Gauthier to accomplish that because the Habs have little in assets to trade. Maybe Spacek will bounce back just like Gomez.

If Gauthier cannot get Winchester, I'd like him to sign Adam Mair, a gritty RH center. This is the type of guy that would be ideal on the 4th line with Moen & White. he would replace guys like Halpern and Metropolit, good veterans with some gas left in the tank and won't fuss if they are not dressed for few games.

Mair is only 32, and has 5 fights last season for NJ, the second most on his team. And he ain't bad on face offs.

Yeah, I agree with you. Spacek takes alot of flak around here, but the bottom line is that he's a good defenseman who will perform well with a few healthy, high caliber defensmen around him.

I'd love to see Winchester/Madden or another big bottom 6 forward picked up before puck drop. Otherwise, I'm excited to see this team next season.

Spacek did really well until he was overused if I recall. I looked like he lost a step late in the season and into the playoffs. He needs to see his minutes reduced a little imo.

I agree with the people who think we need to add a d-man. Having Yemelin,Weber penciled in a top 6 scares me. Using Spacek as a 5-6 would be ideal.

I don't understand how Hannan is still unsigned. Very solid top 4 guy would look great beside Subban.

A good addition would be a guy like Dominic Moore. Oh wait...we traded a 2nd round pick for him and let him walk.

Good idea. If we all cry at the same time he'll come back. Like in Power Rangers when they brought Zordon back to life.

I don't think he's a good enough skater.

We need more toughness on D, imo.

Surprised we didn't get Shane O'Brien for only 1,1mil...

Sign Mara to a 2-way contract? ($200,000 AHL, $500,000 NHL).

Hannan? Too old? Gas left in the tank? (too expensive? asking for too much?).
Markov - Emelin
Hannan - Subban
Gill - Gorges
Spacek
Weber (forward?)

Forwards:
I'm all for getting Winchester
http://forecaster.thehockeynews.com/...layer.cgi?2186
(maybe coach Martin wouldn't like his lack of discipline?)

JP Dumont

I think he would be a great complement to the team. Obviously his best days are behind him, but if he was willing to come cheap (~1.5M$) would you want him on the Habs?

A 3rd line of Dumont-Eller-Kostitsyn sounds a lot better than Kostitsyn-Eller-Moen in my opinion.

I like him, but it's crazy how much his production has dropped in the past few years. I guess it's a combination of him slowing down and being demoted to checking lines.

I would like to get him, but only on a one year deal, and only if it was cheap.

Holy crap I can't stand everyone wanting to get Kovalev.

I don't think there's a worse decision to be made for the future of this team.

A worst decision?

How about Samsonov?

(I absolutely agree with you, for the record! no thanks on Kovalev, no thanks on Dumont either--LET THE KIDS PLAY)
