Nah, the Hockey Gods destined Eberle (an Oilers fan) to fall to the Oil and Gustafsson had Capital roots (via Dad) to fall to the Caps. Too bad it didn't work out for them.

Someone in the NHL will take a chance on him again. May have to be once he's established himself in Europe for a few years.

Some guys don't seem to get it until later in their 20s, if not a bit later.

Motivation issues, injury prone but yea he has still got a lot of talent in him.

I read an article about him thinking of leaving hockey forever, too bad really, I would take his talent in a heart beat!

He should definitely go back to Europe and play a full season or two there to get back on track and find that passion again. People can say what they want about the guy but no one is in his position here, if he lost his passion he has to find a way to get it back and being closer to home or wherever he is comfortable to get that passion back is the best for a young guy who once had a bright future.

Kind of reminds me of Legein and even Daigle, when both took a break and came back, they were more dedicated than before, at least in Daigle's case. I still think if Daigle took that break earlier in his career, he wouldn't have been as much of a bust as he ended up being.

So true. He was my AHL MVP for the first 40 or so games of my dynasty team. Oddly enough, he didn't cut it in the NHL there, either.

Caps board has been over this about a million times. Most of us are very satisfied with John Carlson, and realize that if the Caps made a different pick there, we might not get him at 27. You could argue that we should have picked Carlson at 21 and, well, anybody else at 27, but that's not what happened.

Wasted pick, sure if you want to call it that. Even in a draft considered to be one of McPhee's weaker ones in recent years, with two of the Caps picks already out of the organization/hockey (Gustafsson and Mesterey), we got John Carlson and Braden Holtby. And Della Rovere has already seen NHL games for the Blues after we traded him for King.

I know he sucks, but a hundred twenty five bucks? That seems kind of low.

McPhee: Anton, we no longer need your services.
Anton: I know - but can you at least pay for my gas to get to the airport?
McPhee: OK, here's $50.
Anton: My car's a Bentley and it only gets 7 miles per gallon.
McPhee: How about $100?
Anton: I'm hungry. There's a 5 Guys at the airport.
McPhee: ...$125

It costs different amounts of money to put in a waiver request.
To place a player on unconditional waivers, it costs $125.
The highest price is $90,000, which is the price to place a goaltender who does not have at least two years of experience on waivers.

If you want to see the rest of the prices, read CBA section 13.16 a-b.

So much for the "Gustafsson is going to be better than Josefson" talk.

I thought that $125 was a mistype.

As a side note, I doubt any NHL franchise takes a stab at this guy anytime soon. If he re-establishes himself in Europe, maybe someone signs him in a couple years. But he passed through waivers for this to happen, and he's not exactly a big ticket contract. Nobody wants him.

Actually, he hasn't passed through waivers yet.
If he isn't claimed in the next eight hours (12 PM EDT), he will clear.

I was assuming since it was referring to a "buy out" that he already cleared waivers and was being bought out. Guess I could have interpreted that incorrectly.

Yeah, I don't know why it even says buyout, as the Capitals cannot buy anyone out since they don't have any player-elected arbitration cases.

He's probably being released for breach of contract, which means he will forfeit the rest of his salary and it won't count against the cap as a buyout.

He's a wasted first round pick, but it doesn't sting at all considering who was taken after him.

Maybe he'll go work in IKEA in Stockholm, who knows. Good luck

It wasn't a buyout, it was a mutual release. And that has now happened, yes.

Alright thanks. I just saw "buyout" in the tweet so took it like that.
