We have two sources saying completely different things. We don't know what's right at this point.

its not 2 different sources...

first capgeek said there was no penalty based on info they got from larry brooks...then shortly after BOTH brooks and capgeek corrected that info cause brooks told them the wrong thing the first time by mistake. but larry brooks is the source on both reports.

Well for starters we aren't going to carry 14 forwards so 1 of those forwards will be gone

Who says? We've carried 14 forwards each of the last 2 years. It's certainly possible that we will only carry 13 this year, but it's in no way guaranteed.

Kinda looks like Wolski might get bought out if they want to sign another defenseman and have some cap space...

edit: well, maybe not:

Could dump Christensen or something and put MZA in the lineup if necessary but doesn't leave much space...kind of "eh" on that 3rd line

Top 6 is set with Dubinsky, Wolski LW, Richards, one of Steps/AA and then Gabs, Cally.

Sure people are going to say WW is not guaranteed but I don't see him going anywhere and he needs to be in offensive situations.

That leavs a bottom 6 and one spare for Boyle, Prust, Avery, Rupp, Fedotenko, Christensen and one of the Cs AA/Steps.

You can remove the 1.75 on Zuke cause unless he plays incredible in camp he is not starting the yr on the team. I know everyone loves Hagelin but where does he play this yr? he would have to be a call up

Also the team can go over the cap. They have room for Cally around the same as Dubi got and Eminger for under a million.

Then in camp it plays itself out on final numbers

agree with this

Yeah, the impact of Drurys buyout goes done as well. Down by $2.050.000 from this year.
And most likely we will not be penalized for using a bonus overage next year ($537.000)
Feds has a two year deal @ 1.400.000 so he most likely stays. But - Add the Drury/overage savings above to "most likely" goners as in Avery ($1.937.000) + EC ($925.000) + WW ($3.800.000) and it is a total of $9.249.000 to be replaced by 4 new "bodies". Only Del Zotto + a backup keeper need a new contracts next year, so much need not be added there. I agree we should use strength in our organisation and try to integrate our young prospects onto the team next year - if they (Kreider, Thomas, Hagelin, McIlraith/Kundratek) are ready of course. Use the cap space and other assets (picks/prospects) to load up on experienced final pieces at the dealine and make a serious run!!!

yeah drury's cap hit drops by $2 mil and we save lots of $$ with contracts expiring that you mentioned...BUT the big variable there is does the cap go down under the new cba. so they might take away that cap space

If this doesn't happen maybe we can nab a Sharp or Semin in FA?

There definitely won't be an overage next year because there is no bonus cushion this year. All bonuses have to be paid from this year's cap space.

And Feds is on a 1 year deal.

You are correct on both points I see, although point one is no contradiction.

Regardless that would leave $10.649.000 to sign 4 new players (some from within the system) + the eventual additional cost of resigning Del Zotto & a backup keeper. IF the cap remains at 64.3 M, which it very well may not... Time will tell, seems doable though..

So we went over the cap for the 2010-11 season by $527,000 correct? If that's true, does the $64,300,000 get deducted by the $527,500 or is there some other sort of penalty, or both?

The 527k is deducted from the 64.3 mil cap.

Basically, between the penalty and Drury's cap hit, we are operating as though the cap were $60,057,333

That's the maximum amount of money we can spend on players, barring any LTIR.

Pumped for this yr but the thought of having enough space for a ufa top line lw next yr is exiting. They could even trade for that player at the deadline

Agreed! And we don't have to worry about being in cap hell or even too much about prospects because we have depth now. We are free to do whatever it takes to win, and that is a great feeling.
