Read this The Healthy Scratch, because you apparently don't read my posts.

....what were all the hysterics about again??

It was never in Dubinsky's or the Rangers interest for this to go further. He gets a nice bump. Now IF he can fulfill expectations, he creates leverage.

Good move for both sides.

I doubt it. Gag is a pretty sensible poster and I don't think I have ever seen him flip flop.

Yourself on the other hand... I have been saying you should make yourself a healthy scratch on these boards since your first week.

Dude, do you even read other posters' responses to you? You were patently wrong. Period. GAG was right. Period. Every other poster who has weighed in on the debate has backed GAG.

It was a good thing that he elected arbitration, because it meant A) he couldn't be poached and B) it put a timeline on the negotiation, which resulted in - ta da! - a deal right before the arbitration hearing. (Funny that!)

How do you not understand this?

You have to assume both sides were playing chicken, and it was Dubi who at the last minute said "**** it, let's take their deal." I still don't understand why he needed to drag it out this long and have all this drama, because it's a fair deal for him, not a sweetheart deal by any stretch.

Good deal. Good to see Dubi came to his senses if he was really demanding 5+.

personally I wasn't worried at all.

Submit your position without degrading the player and you retain a strong relationship.

There's 2 ways the hearing could be handled. Beat the guy down, or simply submit your comparables and let the Arbiter decide the fate.

Zherdev is a player you beat down, Dubinsky is a player you handle a bit more delicately.

Either way, rationale thought prevalied.

Tune changes? From what? GAG was simply saying that Dubinsky electing for arbitration was a good thing because it:

a) Protects against offer sheets
b) Sets a timeline for a deal to be reached

If Dubinsky doesn't elect for arbitration, this deal in all likelihood doesn't happen until September,

"So excited"? What? All GAG was portraying was the fact that Dubinsky going to arbitration is a better option than not.

And panicking? Why would GAG "panic"? He never even did. And, obviously, he wasn't wrong. In fact, this signing proves him right,

Nice to have Dubinsky signed for the next four years. The cap hit is slightly (I was thinking $4M) higher than I thought, but $200K per year isn't a big deal.

I think Callahan will get around $4.5M per year.

Im late to the party.

This makes me so happy, and relieved!

I was hoping for more years, but very good, and we can always extend him later in the contract.

Thank, God.

Now let's get the same deal done for Callahan!

Good job!
Resigned your leading goal scorer.
Resigned your leading assist leader.
Resigned the homegrown, american born kid to an affordable 4 year deal
Resigned one of your leading candidates for future captain of the NY Rangers!

Now lets get Cally done and the "Heart and Soul" is back!!!!

I do not want a 4 year deal for Callahan. Give him 5 at least. The last thing we need is Cally, Duby, and Staal all coming off the books in the same year...

This made me lol, bravo good sir.

Now on topic. Very fair deal for Dubinsky, right in the ball park where we wanted him. Gives us ample room to resign Callahan and bring in a 7th defensemen and another forward at like 1.5m (Prospal?)

Great to see.

It's DEAD ON where his comps said he should be. Silly that it had to go right up to the deadline to get it done, but hey - at least it got done.

It's the fans who create the drama. Standard negotiating practices have you waiting until the last possible minute to make a decision. I doubt Dubi ever seriously considered declining the offer.
