It makes sense short term. But it leaves a bad taste in fans' mouths when they feel like they aren't appreciated. I mean how much would it cost them to give us a t-shirt once a year...particularly when Amex/Delta/whoever is paying for a chunk of it? Every year* I've been a subscriber I've seen my tickets get more expensive...almost as if it's a requirement from one year to the next. At some point (and likely in the near future) I'm going to say the hell with being a subscriber...it's not worth it any more. Not with a beautiful 112" HD image at home and a surf and turf spread with my favorite drink costing less than a 300 level seat that now costs $1/minute. Anyway, I'm going off topic...this is a discussion for a different thread. lol
*The one year they didn't go up they more than made up for it the following year.
oh i totally agree with you, if i lived in NY< they would have already priced themselves out of my budget anyway.
I wouldn't be so sure about that one, he turns ufa when he's like 27 years old and he may very well be the best player in the game by then, he's already top 3

No, trust me you can be damn sure that that will never happen.
To be perfectly honest, I think MSL is just as good as Stamkos right now and want to see how Stammer produces without somebody like that playing with him before I ink him to a 10 million per year deal or something like that. Interested to see how Stamkos does when Marty retires.

I think Stamkos is a great player, don't get me wrong.
I think when he physically matures he could kind of be an Alex Ovechkin-lite in that he will be able to power himself through checks in the offensive zone and create his own chances but until then he really will need a great playmaker to keep up his great production.
I honestly don't think he's ready to be a player that can carry the team on his back all by himself yet.

Stamkos plays with Downie half the time. Stamkos feeding off of MSL is totally overblown.

He had 17 PPG's this year playing with MSL, and 24 LAST year when he won the RR with MSL.
He's still an elite, fantastic young player. Don't get me wrong. I just don't think he should be compared to a guy like Crosby or Ovechkin yet. His defensive game also leaves something to be desired.
so stamkos will hit ufa in his prime, verrayyy nicceeee
So this^, with congrats to TBL.
If true, the player agreed to a comparatively moderate to cheap number instead of ultimately trying for a longer term at bigger dollars.
But again, he's expedited his path to free agency.
I did think SS would again wind up w/TBL.
I wasn't sure if they'd have to move LeCavalier or somebody to do that, but they did get it done.
I thought if they dropped a dime on LeCav, 10 years for Stamkos would not be a critical concern if the payout could be structured.
But Stamkos apparently wanted more than minimal, less than long term.

I see what you're trying to say, but the other argument is it's simply chemistry. That is what makes a lot of players better and teams better. That's what's needed to be successful.
Stamkos made St. Louis better. St. Louis made Stamkos better.
You can say Stamkos' one-timer makes St. Louis' passes from the point look like gold. You can say it the other way around.

What I see to take from Stamkos, he plays more of a winger's game than a center's. He's not flashy making plays for is linemates. He knows how to work with his linemates (St. Louis, Downie, etc) and knows how to finish.
The three have their similarities, but they also succeed in many different ways... In my opinion, it goes: Crosby > Stamkos > Ovechkin
Center depth is the most important (as well as hot goaltending) position in my opinion to be successful. Gimme an elite center like Stamkos over Ovechkin any day of the week.

No way, I can't consider Stamkos better than Ovechkin yet. They're both scorers, and Ovechkin in the worst year of his career only scored 6 less points than Stammer. At this juncture I think Ovechkin is the better player (but people are souring on him because he hasn't been to the Finals) but Stamkos can become the better player since he's still 5 years younger.
I believe in center depth too, but I don't think it works here when they're both primarily scorers. With Crosby it makes sense because he's also a fantastic playmaker.
We'll find out soon probably, since MSL is closer to 40 than 30 now .
