Francis Bouillon suffers setback in recovery

http://www.examiner.com/nashville-pr...tback-recovery

Quote:
Some tough news out of Montreal Thursday, as Cyberpresse’s Richard Labbe caught up with Nashville Predators defenseman Francis Bouillon at a charity golf tournament. Bouillon told Labbe that after working out for the last few weeks, the symptoms of his post-concussion syndrome have returned and he has had to discontinue his workouts as a result.

If he's placed on LTIR, that's another $1.3 in cap space, right?

Sucks, but I wasn't counting on him anyway given his recovery to date.

No. LTIR simply allows a team to go over the cap by the amount the contract is worth. It still counts against the cap.

Not very good news. I'd like to have another vet on the blueline. I guess Blum looked like a vet, but I'm still hesitant to have three rookies playing defense next year.

SOB simply isn't a better player than the other options. There's a reason why he keeps ending up on the bottom pairings of every team he's been on ... he gets shuffled down and made expendable. 5 teams in 6 seasons, hmmmmmmmm.

I think most people just want his size and physicality. It would be nice to have, but it'd be even nicer to have if we could get a guy with some actual skill to complement it (and someone who knows when to take a penalty and when not to crosscheck a guy in the damn head, costing his team a goal )

The problem is that the complete SOB package isn't a good one. Yes, he has a physical side ... but he tends to be an idiot too often and there is little upside to his game. There are good physical d-men with size, then there are guys like SOB.

There's still a few quality vet defensemen roaming around out there. I wouldn't be too worried.

Was it opening night of 05/06 when Kimmo had more NHL games played than the other 5 D starters combined?

I don't remember who we had on opening night exactly. Timonen, Weber, Suter, Hamhuis, Zidlicky, and _____? I'm drawing a blank. Weber and Suter were rookies. Hamhuis had only one season because of the lock out. The same goes for Zidlicky. It's possible

edit: I don't think Weber was on the roster opening night. Someone with a better memory than me take this one

Looks like it'll be a dogfight between Ellis, Josi, Laakso and Ekholm.

We all worry about the bottom pairing but Trotz could split up Weber and Suter for a while and have them pair with a rookie each. Ellis with Suter and Josi with Weber would be good as it forms a good left handed/right handed combo. Blum and Klein seemed to work well last year too and the experience factor would seem about right.

We should just trade Laakso at this point.

I was hoping to see that last season so I hope it gets tried at least. We need to see how they play apart if we have to part ways with one of them.

This is not good news. I know we want to see the kids back there, but that's an awful lot of turnover, replacing Cube, Franson, and SOB with rookies (Blum's not technically one, but would qualify for ROY). We need cube back there, in my opinion, at least as a mentor and veteran presence. He always played tough and hard nosed hockey. Certainly fit the mold of a predator type player.

This isn't a tragic loss, but it defiantly takes away from our depth. With the loss of Franson and a possible inconsistencies with rookies/sophmores, this has me worried. Just means more icetime for Lebda.......oh god. Chris Campoli/Bryan McCabe anyone?
