I blame this thread for all future Ovechkin issues..

6 - Number of playoff series the Capitals have won since George McPhee took over as General Manager in 1997 (which makes him the third-longest-tenured GM in the League), three of which came in McPhee's first season on the job.
It was Siberian a couple of years ago. OV had a slow start and I believe he went back home to Russia because his Grandfather was sick and Siberian said all he did was party and will not do well when he got back.....LOL.
Is this the guess thread? I am torn between the laugh or facepalmer.
I went with . Kind of nice to see some humor, especially with all the long offseason. I never take this stuff seriously on the forums, especially here. Good group of folks.
Vogs: Hey George
George: Get your ass to Russia and ask him
Vogs: OK OK OK I know, I said I would go.
George: These twerps tweeting me are driving me bonkers over it. Dont they have anything better to do?
Vogs: Arg Hangs up
Vogs: So how you doing. What cha been doing all summer.
Ovi: Fine. I had nice trip to...
Vogs: So. when are you going to start to work out, anyways?
Ovi: Um. Tomorrow actually.
Vogs: thinking to self... OK I am outta here
He's regressed into a 10-15 goal scorer, 20 if we're lucky.
Nobody I repeat nobody can lose 10 pounds in 3 months and tone up, not even with a home gym and an endless supply of free supplements.
Fire sale?
+48,985. Impossible to loose 10 pounds. in 3 months.
I don't think people appreciate how brutal an 82 game season is in a sport like hockey. Especially for a top 10 hitter like Ovechkin. A month or two of rest is going to do more good then harm. Plus he's already said he's committed to getting in shape for the season.

Ted Leonsis via Capitals Insider:
Alex on his way to the airport called me and said, "I’m just calling to thank you for what you’re doing for us and I apologize. What I’m doing isn’t working. I have this offseason and I’ll try a different training regiment and I hope to come in in better shape and do better. I’m going to watch a lot of film and I don’t like this feeling. I think we’re better than our playoff performance is."
Also correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't training camp start in Mid-September? Plenty of time to get in shape. Not to mention the fact that the season starts on October 8th. From what I hear he's already started training. 3 or 4 months to loose 5 to 10 pounds is nothing.
I am not saying he is going to start slow. I just wish he took better care of himself. And anyone that does not think he has slipped over the past two years is crazy. I think his game shows it.
This is the guy we got used to and loved
And this is the guy we have now. And the first really shows he never really got back to were he was.
A) Ovechkin looks like offseason Backstrom, and that's bad.
B) I don't care one bit. He's been partying and eating McDonald's since he came into the league, and he's less than a year removed from being the top offensive player in the game.

Actually, been doin Medifast, and lost 9lbs my first week. I was told the record was 26 lbs by a woman, the first week, but she worked out like a fiend.

Sorry man but no one looses 9 actual pounds in a week unless it's water weight or they're morbidly obese. And even then 9 pounds is a reach.

Yeah. At least half of that was water. Losing 9 pounds requires a 31,500-calorie deficit. People are told to consume around 2,000 calories per day in order to maintain their weight, which adds up to 14,000 over the course of a week. So, yeah.

10 pounds in 3 months is easy.
-500 calories a day for a week is one pound. Over 3 months that's 12 pounds but he could easily cut out more than 500.
If Ovechkin was a true professional he'd be focused on what he can improve, not simply getting into "game shape".
That's some bar-lowering **** if I've ever heard it.
The lack of discipline falls on the "leadership" Bruce and George. Clueless.

In fact, the manager said he has had "lots" of conversations with each member of his big four (Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, Mike Green and Semin) since their season was ended by the Lightning in a second-round series sweep.
McPhee didn't feel any of the four played at the top of his game last year, despite the club's regular-season success (they won another Southeast Division title and finished as the top seed in the Eastern Conference).
"It's a big year for them," McPhee said. "It's time for them to take over as leaders of the team. I expect them to come into camp in fabulous shape and be the guys to keep people in line."
Being in top shape will be a start. At different times during last season, I heard whispers about the conditioning levels of Ovechkin and Backstrom, while in previous years Green's fitness had been questioned. I suspect McPhee will be eyeballing each of those players very closely when they return in September.
