Kelly Guard was in training camp for the Sens but was today reassigned to the Binghamton Senators in the first round of cuts.

Don't know when he was considered a future #1... maybe a darkhorse for it, but I'd be surprised if he ever became one. I would be happy if he ends up as a career backup goalie in the NHL, myself. I think expecting anything more of this guy is pushing it.

The Drafted Glass, who is showing more improvment at a faster rate than Guard, Glass is also younger

Glass is worlds better than Guard was from a technical standpoint. Guard, to me, always screamed "product of a defensive system."

Glass has a heck of a shot at being a #1 in this league. Guard really doesn't.

Wouldn't be half surprised if Muckler will package one of Guard or Thompson with someone off the NHL roster (Pothier anyone????) ...

Glass is looking real good and keeping him in Bingo close to goalie coach Ron Low would be tremendously advantageous to his development.

I really wish they had kept Glass up with the sens longer. They need someone to push Emery.

I think guard is going back to the coast.

Anyone know what happend to Mike Mole, I heard he was really good. But they just sent him packing.

HUH? Glass is NOT ready to push anybody for an NHL spot. And I don't understand this concept of "pushing Emery". IMO Emery has shown enough in the minors to warrent the backup role uncontested. He needs just to push himself and be ready for those (inevitable) times when Hasek is going to be unavailable.

As for Mole. He has apparently got an offer in the ECHL.

I heard Mole signed with a Phoenix team (Claude Lemieux's team), I think in the ECHL.

And I'm not sure when Guard was ever considered more than an interesting project. With Thompson and Glass in Bingo, I really don't see much room for him in the organization.

Mole was signed up by Phoenix early this summer. He had an out clause (i.e. all six guys who made the cut and signed with a team had to have one) in case he got signed by the Sens but the article indicates basically that Muckler had agreed that he would play in Phoenix this year. As of now, he is property of the ECHL Phoenix team and any team that wants him would have to negotiate his rights with them.

I read in the Citizen today that Mole was released by the Sens. Does that make him a UFA or is this just so he can play in the ECHL?
